Rilaleeyth was shocked that she had been addressed and in a friendly tone. J’ver had never been bothered in the past by the way most people avoided them but it had always been something she desperately wished would change. She was judged for her rider’s actions, which was understandable but some days it seemed so unfair when she watched others play or bathe together without her. But Astoreth always intimidated her with her blunt words and cool demeanour. Oh! I’m well, thank you. I hope the same is said for you.
“You can ask but I may not tell,” J’ver did his best to use his sweet and friendly tone that still worked on winning some people over when he had been in the business of gathering secrets and using people. After a casual shrug he finally gave an answer of sorts, “let’s just say we had a difference of opinions on too many things.” When A’liran’s attempt to bring up the rumours was cut short and his attention turned elsewhere, J’ver quickly followed the gaze and saw Tyrrisath. What was he doing here? Was S’kef checking up on him? Did Rilaleeyth call to them for some unknown reason? No, she was content to have Astoreth talking to her and Tyrrisath was flying too high to be doing no more than doing just that; flying.
Rilaleeyth’s excitement vanished when she saw her -- no, the -- beautiful brown fly by. Her last flight had ruined so much! At Astoreth’s question, Rilaleeyth lowered to the ground, head resting on her forepaws as she tried not to creel and cry over their misery. No, he didn’t. We… we do not talk anymore. She couldn’t add on it was because she was a foolish female.
As soon as he decided Tyrrisath was of no concern to him, J’ver returned to his flowers, giving one a quick check for any decay or bugs. Satisfied that his care continued to be top notch and his garden was in perfect condition, he rose to his feet, brushing at his knees as he did so. The weeds he had plucked would be dealt with after A’liran was. “I’m sure there are more rumours that just that one but already I find myself liking that one the best. It matters not who ended the arrangements we had, only that they ended. Besides, once he lost Weyrsecond, we really didn’t have much need for each other.” J’ver did his best to keep a casual air about him, trying to seem unaffected by it all but he also knew his staying in his hut would be seen as moping – which it was – or possibly fear he’d see S’kef – which it also sort of was.
His arrogance couldn’t remain silent forever, though, and since it had been shoved aside except when sewing or tending the herbs, it was ready to strike now. “Of course I’m the better half. Why would anyone think otherwise?” He was far more handsome than most everyone in the weyr and most certainly more cunning. Someone would be lucky to have him! S’kef had him but it turned out he was anything but luck to the brownrider.
It was getting harder to keep an indifferent attitude around A’liran with the man continuing to run his mouth, looking for buttons to set him off. It was clear that was exactly what was being done as well but J’ver was a bit rusty with verbal sparring and A’liran was a formidable opponent when he was at the top of his game. “Wishing someone dead is very uncouth, dear A’liran. We’re already low on dragons, would you really wish another dead just to satisfy your desire of revenge for some mistreatment in the past?”
