Appearance

Eyes: Deep, rich brown with amber highlights whenever she is in the sunlight; a lack of natural light makes her eyes appear to be almost black. Almond shaped, Kalea's eyes are thickly lashed, and her eyebrows are delicate and naturally arched.

Hair: Dark brown, her hair highlights naturally in the summer sun to have golden strands flecked throughout. The length varies, from short and scruffy through to long.

Height: 5'7 at full growth

General Appearance: Kalea has a soft, curvy body for such a young teenager; she'd not hippy or busty, but all of her limbs are soft and full, promising a cuddly young woman when she reaches her full growth. As she grows, she'll maintain the soft curves and plush build. She'll never be particularly chunky, but she also will never have the fit and almost muscular build of many of the women of the Weyr.

Kalea has a rounded face, with a cute little nose, and full lips. Her skin is a soft bronze colour, that deepens as she spends more time in Ista Weyr, where the sunshine is bright and easy to come by. While she has a couple of freckles scattered here and there, she doesn't have enough to really call attention to the fact.

A wide smile, that easily captures attention and shines brightly, Kalea considers it her best feature. She has nice teeth, white and naturally straight. She takes good care of them. Her hands and feet are small, and she considers both her fingers and her toes to be somewhat stubby. She doesn't mind the stubby toes, but wishes her fingers were long and elegant like Lady Xyliah's, or pretty Mylorah's.

Dressing Style: As a drudge, Kalea wore whatever her master's chose for her, which was usually something functional, marked with their badge, and Kalea has no desire to ever go back to such outfits (if they can be called that!)

As a servant of Lord Jalazmar and Lady Xyliah, Kalea had a suitable wardrobe of work clothing that she found a lot more suitable in general -- but what she really loved were the dresses that Lady Xyliah gave her and her sisters to wear when they visited with F'drel or when they were taken along to Gathers or down to the Markets.

With a taste for such outfits gifted to her, Kalea took a shine to beautiful dresses, delicate shoes, and clothing that was much less functional but made her feel like a beautiful Lady (even though she'd never be an actual Lady!). She adores bright colours, even though they're the more expensive, and saves her marks up obsessively so that she can afford new ones for all the big events!

Background Story:
730.xx.xx: Little brother Kitelan is born. Kalea isn't particularly thrilled at not being the doted upon baby any longer, but at least she's still the youngest girl.
731.xx.xx: Mama dies, and Kalea finds out just how fragile life is, and how fragile her way of life is. Its a heavy lesson for a child of five.
732-738: Honestly, nothing much happened in Kalea's life here; she went about being a child as often as she could get away with it, and acted like a shadow the rest of the time, cleaning up and doing her chores and trying very hard not to be noticed by those that shouldn't notice her.
739.04.22: Kelikki went ahead to move in with lord Jalazmar and lady Xyliah, whom they were told they would now be serving. Kalea was spectacularly not thrilled by this, but kept her opinions to herself, at least, when it wasn't something already being discussed in hushed whispers between the elder girls.
740.01.10: Kalea turns fourteen! She finds it to be the best birthday! Lady Xyliah buys her a special present (a really cute pair of shoes, that match Kalea's best gather dress!) and Miss Yanzi takes her out to breakfast, while they do morning chores, and gets her sweet treats as a gift, and endless chatter. Kalea really likes Yanzi, she's nice and treats her like she's a grownup!
740.08.21: Kalea and her sisters learn that they will be moving to Ista Weyr where F'drel is stationed! Kalea has mixed feelings about it; she's really enjoyed living with Lord Jalazmar and Lady Xyliah and Miss Yanzi; she would be more excited, but Kalea is very good at eavesdropping and she knows Kitelan won't be coming with them, and she heard Kelikki fighting to stay, too. She also heard Lady Xyliah being very upset at all of them going at all, and that made Kalea feel loved in a way she hadn't expected!

She usually only sticks with one teacher for about two or three weeks before avoiding them until F'drel finds someone else to toss her at.

740.07.17 – Time Of My Life
5 PM

Kalea was having the best time! She’d spent the morning with her sisters, trying on dresses and occasionally begging Kelikki to buy her a treat. Sometimes she would, but mostly she said no. Kalea thought that was incredibly unfair, since at least a quarter of the marks Kelikki held were hers, and she should get to spend them on whatever she fancied, but she didn’t say anything. That was a battle Kalea knew she wouldn’t win, and she didn’t feel like being scolded. Instead, she focused on finding the best dress, even when all three of the others had found theirs. Maleah and Ferra were allowed to go dancing, and Kalea dragged Kelikki off to yet another stall. It was well after lunchtime when she finally found the right one. And even though Kelikki didn’t think it was entirely proper, Kalea figured she was so sick of waiting for Kalea to try them on, that she bought it without a fight.

The dress was light, summery, and fell to Kalea’s mid-calves, which she thought was a perfectly respectable length. It was probably the fact that it had weird flowy sleeves that were split so they fell down each side of her shoulder that Kelikki didn’t really like; not at all functional, after all. But Kalea didn’t want it to be functional. She wanted it because it was brightly coloured – a shocking combination of sunny yellow, with splashes of emerald green and sapphire blue and a beautiful purple thread doing elaborate hemming. Kalea thought it was gorgeous! She thought she just had to look amazing in it, even though she couldn’t see herself, since no one brought mirrors down to the stalls. Not that Kalea expected them to, but it would have been nice to twirl around in the sunshine and watch her reflection dance.

With the dress sorted – and Kalea in it, because why wouldn’t she immediately wear it?! – Kelikki declared they were going to find the other girls and have some lunch. Kalea went along happily, at least until they’d all eaten. After that, she’d finally managed to beg a couple of marks off Kelikki and with the promise of re-joining her elder sisters at the dancing stage when she’d spent the money. Beaming, Kalea had given Kelikki a hug before vanishing into the crowds of people, skipping joyfully and deciding almost immediately that she wouldn’t spend all of her marks for as long as possible!

That, of course, was several hours ago. At least two, possibly more! Not that Kalea was taking note; she was to busy bouncing from stall to stall making friends, her bright and bubbly laughter flowing as easily as her skipping steps and cheerful greetings. Kalea was making friends, too! Not, friends her own age. But the old lady with all the knitwear was sweet and she’d given Kalea a tour of her items and explained all about how she made them! Kalea thought knitting was insanely boring, but the old lady was just too precious and she’d been so excited to tell someone about her work that Kalea just couldn’t make her sad by walking away!

So that’s where she was, giggling and nodding and bouncing on her toes as the elderly lady held up a heavy winter dress she was selling, describing how she’d done all the different knits and how she dyed the wool hersef, how the goats that produced the wool were special, making it so soft! Kalea had to agree; the dress was ridiculously soft! She’d never felt anything so soft, and since she was wearing her eye-searing colours, the lady hadheld up a brightly coloured dress. Kalea knew there wasn’t a hope in Faranth’s golden name she could afford it, but it was fun to dream of. She was working herself up to asking if she could try it on, even though it wasn’t winter yet and it was way out of her affordability, when someone joined them. Kalea turned, and smiled welcomingly at the other girl…
