Orgailian woke with a start as someone shook him awake. He looked around and noticed two odd things. One, it was Zelana that had woken him and two, he was in what passed as Benden Weyr’s library. Shit. He must have fallen asleep when he came in the night before to read. There wasn’t a lot to choose from but he had been bored and hadn’t finished perusing the books from a week earlier when he asked the woman before him if she wanted to join him. But why was she there now?
A quick glance at what she was wearing told him and Orgailian cursed under his breath. “Am I late?” he asked while shoving his own notebook and supplies into his little bag. He had to be late to some degree if she had come looking for him. Then again, Zelana was nice and probably noticed one of her boyfriend’s brothers hadn’t shown up yet so she came to one of the spots he would likely be in when he wasn’t seen in the barracks.
The book that had clearly bored him to death was shoved back on a shelf as Orgailian apologised for making her risk being late herself. They made their way back to the barracks where he waved her off and promised he could dress and find his way on his own. Just because he had been irresponsible in one aspect didn’t mean he was a complete lost cause. Speaking of those, he hoped Zoremet was already there and hadn’t wandered off. There was always a strong chance he was exploring or at least distracted by food or a friend. Actually, it was still dark out so he had probably been sleeping, hopefully in his own bunk.
He’d worry later if he didn’t see his brother on the Sands. As it was, Orgailian quickly readied himself and dashed to the Hatching grounds where he saw most people had already arrived. He spotted Mylorah first and went to stand near her, knowing their Impressed siblings would want them watching each other’s backs more so than usual. He had to admit to being a bit worried as well but Mylorah kept insisting she was fine, both from the poison and loss of a friend. He didn’t fully believe her act but when the first egg hatched, he noticed her smile seemed to be more genuine than it had been when he first arrived.
