He was right! Dragons were murderous, killer creatures that would eat them and gobble them up and have no regrets about it at all! Cazelarias shrank away from Cazan when her gold beast roared, but reached out to snatch at her sleeve when she was suddenly darting away, crying out her name in terror as she rushed into the thick of the gold dragon’s anger. Somehow she wasn’t hurt – yet – but he’d seen the way the dragon sent candidates flying with her tail and just knew it was only a matter of luck that none of them had been eaten. Perhaps the dragon was too worked up to think clearly, because surely she would have just eaten that candidate if she was in her right mind!
The screen turned keen had Cazelarias yelping, crouching down in the stands, his fingers plugging his ears as he trembled in terror. He hadn’t seen the crushed egg, didn’t know what had caused the dragons sudden and vicious outrage. Didn’t care. All he knew was that he was right, dragons were dangerous and best avoided at all costs. He was terrified for his sister, though, and worried he’d have to save her – despite his own terror – and that was the only reason he slowly shifted, pulling his knees under himself and stretching up a little to peer over the bannister, eyes searching frantically for Cazan.
“Cazan!” He hissed, the sound not really loud enough to travel beyond his own ears, especially with the gold monster making so much noise still. It was as he was glancing up at her, cringing, that he saw the egg out of the corner of his eye, and he gasped. Okay, maybe the terrible creature had a good reason to be upset. How did the egg break? How was the baby hurt so badly that it died? He assumed it was dead; it wasn’t moving and Malwhatshername seemed upset enough that it had to be. Fuck. He felt sick, and his trembling increased as he knelt on the ground, too afraid to move.
