It had been a long and well, disastrous day. Erisi blamed it on Charath, and the green naturally blamed it on her bonded. The truth was that they both loved each other, but like all new relationships there were a series of kinks that needed to be worked out. One that hadn't been addressed well enough was also the cause for their being tardy for part of the Weyrling Lesson earlier that day. Erisi wasn't an exceptional student to begin with, since he had made the decision not to be. Even so, he did try to keep his head out of trouble enough that he didn't try to be late. He knew how much G'rem hated tardiness, and this was something he'd be paying for sevendays from now. It was a fate he would have avoided if at all possible.
We would have been on time if you did not insist on eating, and then use eating as an opportunity to sneak in a nap. Charath scolded from what was her 'problem' position on the bed. On his bed. He'd already gave up and moved to the chair in his room, and likely when he was just about to fall into a deep sleep, Charath would move from the bed to his side to try and cuddle up close to him. It was the only time she showed any depth of fondness for him, and it was the one time of the day he'd rather she didn't. Erisi would inevitably wake up, try to find a comfortable position, give up, and then try and reclaim the bed. The both of them could lay on it if Charath had more consideration for Erisi, but her wings usually ended up taking most of the space since the dragonet enjoyed being sprawled out in an undignified way when no one was looking. The green Weyrling could fall asleep, it just didn't last long, or wasn't deep.
Who could honestly blame him for being late to a lesson or two, then?
Oh, that was right, Charath could.
"If you had let Valerian wake me up properly, it would have been fine," Erisi rolled his eyes at Charath. The Harper was a little too tired to invest a great deal in arguing with his dragonet. In actuality, he'd rather give up when it came to her and let her have her way. Erisi could fight with anyone, but with Charath? He was more whipped than a holder letting his wife work while he stayed home to watch their twenty kids.
Why do you keep insisting on that? No. I don't understand why you want to, and I really don't want to try to. Lessons are important, and I will not have you embarrassing me by sleeping your way through them. The dragonet lifted her head, fixing her gaze intently on her bonded. Whatever meaning she tried to pass on to him through her eyes, he ignored and spent a few minutes trying to situate himself in the chair. You can lay with me in my bed, Charath suggested in what Erisi assumed was a mock display of pity.
"No, you can have it. It's just your size."
Charath was a little too dignified to admit that she just wanted to sleep at Erisi's side. Erisi was a little too dignified to cuddle with his dragon. "I'm tired - I'm sleeping. Night."
It's not even late! You slept through class!
"No, you kept me up through class."
Of course I did.
