“No plans, eh?” Rhaedalyn laughed with the Madiquel ended her long list of things she wanted to do in the short amount of time given to her away from Ista. She didn’t blame her young friend and would have done much the same in her position. Honestly, they were in rather similar situations. Running a Weyr didn’t leave her and R’nya with much free time even with a Weyrsecond, Head Woman, mentors, and other staff members. They were always on call and even now, spending the day away from the region had her a bit anxious that someone would come running for her—or more likely, R’nya. Still, she was going to dance, shop, and visit friends as well.
“And I lost my preferred escort,” Rhaedalyn clarified and then glanced around the crowd of people milling about. “Trust me, the leaders are never truly alone. There’s always someone watching to make sure we’re safe and don’t need anything,” she sighed, a bit annoyed but also used to such measures when she was out in the public. Usually that only happened when she was out with R’nya since he was the more important of the two of them leadership-wise. Golds were still low in numbers so they weren’t allowed to leave their Weyrs too often to begin with as its own way of protection and that probably bothered her the most. She wanted to visit friends or sweet young girls she’d taken under her wing—instead she had to send letters or ask someone like D’hys to check up on people for her.
“But I’ll probably browse a bit more before making my way to the dance square, hopefully with R’nya. Although,” Rhaedalyn gave Madiquel a knowing look and decided to nudge the young woman toward a wonderful and harmless idea. “D’hys is around somewhere as well and I heard he’s an excellent dancer. I’m sure he would love to take someone for a few spins around the floor if asked.” From what she had witnessed personally in the past, their interactions were always brief but he treated Madiquel well and certainly wouldn’t find a reason to turn her away for a dance—especially with how grown up she now was and looking absolutely stunning in the dress. She couldn’t decide if she was happy or sad that Jajojin couldn’t see his daughter like this right now.
