T’ryn nodded, knowing she’d want to get to work, especially if she had been drunk, hungover, and out of sorts the day before. He also agreed to visit again later, probably around dinner time. Thinking that was the end of it, he was about to say his parting words and head out when her question caught him by surprise. Had he really never said what he did during the day? He supposed not since it wasn’t very exciting and he never made a habit of talking about himself without some prodding.
“Oh, um no, not really. I make lists, I guess. Hypothetically wings and formations mostly. And I like researching family lines and turning them into comprehensive trees so I’m usually doing that when I don’t have anything actually important to do.” It was nerdy and his friends always told him the finished work looked amazing but he knew most of them didn’t see the appeal of the research or even knowing so much about their family. Given who his dad was, T’ryn felt he had more motivation than most to know who his siblings were if nothing else.
“But with Benden Weyr in the process of being opened soon, I have some shifts out there helping to clean. Mostly though, the leadership knows I’m good with paperwork and I’ve been helping them with going through their records and organising lists and transfer requests that are already being prepared. I’ll be doing that in a couple of hours. The Weyrleader likes to have most of the morning to himself before I wander in.” That was also kind of embarrassing. Other bronzeriders were flexing their muscles and doing some heavy work or leading their squads on various tasks at Benden and he was mostly in Ista playing bookkeeper. He just kept reminding himself that not only was he young still, but everyone had strengths in different areas.
