A flicker of embarrassment crossed her face as Tala revealed it had been the last of the fruit, but it passed quickly enough as she wasn’t rebuked for the thievery. She turned and watched the two children playing with the patient green, smiling. “How have you been since I saw you last?” The goldrider asked as she took the offered chair. “Niath is looking quite well; she’s big for a green, but she’s well proportioned.”
They chatted for a while about this and that while the kids entertained themselves. Between Iliyith and Niath stretched out along the weyr ledge it would be difficult for the children to get too close without an alarm being raised by one of the dragons, so she wasn’t terribly concerned about leaving them to their own devices. The gold pretended to be above such silliness as babysitting human children, but her rider could see her eyes barely slit open, watching and whirling an amused blue as she “idly” swished her tail and the children chased it.
Helyna had pulled their chairs closer together, sipping a cup of klah absently. She glanced over at Tala with a smile. “I’ve missed chatting with someone like this. Chatting with you. We had hardly any time together as Candidates it seems like.”
