A'tay was doing his best to understand what he was reading and quizzing Madiquel on but he wasn't the strongest of readers so it sometimes took a bit longer to read and process some of the medical words and terms and then come up with a question for Madiquel. But she hadn't complained about the speed or his questions and seemed to enjoy the method of studying, so he kept at it, vaguely amused at the idea that he could be a Healer by the time they made it through the book. Next time he saw Eb'zer, maybe he could tease him about finding a goal and being the greenrider's rival.
That was clearly a long ways away as the idea crashed to the ground when Madiquel screamed in pain and A'tay spun around to see what happened only to get a arm full of his friend writhing in pain. He couldn't see anything wrong but when she screamed her dragon's name, A'tay saw Zezeth underneath Dyoricath and Xyxyth gently nudging at them as if checking on them and understood what had happened.
He helped Madiquel up and followed her to the dragons. He didn't like seeing her in pain or so upset and he knew the desire to be close to her bonded but A'tay wanted to pull her away so more experienced people could get in there. She wasn't trained enough for this and even if she was, she was riding too many emotions to think straight and might hurt Zezeth more. But it seemed she was being an overprotective clutch mother and keeping everyone away. That also made him want to drag her away. They couldn't help with her shrieking at them. But apparently she didn't think they actually were experienced enough and only Verec would do.
A'tay had a moment where he wasn't sure if he should go personally or find someone else to go so he could stay with Madiquel. I asked Syrendryth to take T'ryn. They know the way and the Hall well enough to not waste time. Leave it to his dragon to keep a cool head and find the logical answer. Grateful for that help, A'tay cautiously closed in on Madiquel and dropped to his knees a couple of feet away so he wasn't crowding her but could still offer his support.
"T'ryn's on his way to get Master Verec. You know how fast and focused he gets with a task. They'll be back here soon, promise." He hesitantly reached a hand out, wanting to comfort her by just a simple touch to her shoulder but refrained. She was still a bit wild-eyed and upset but the Weyrlingmaster was now demanding Madiquel's focus to help her work on separating the pain and remaining calm. That was more important and more helpful than anything he could currently offer.
