Hello loves! While I haven't been writing, I have been working on updating some issues that have been hanging around on the layout! The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Green and Gold dragon flight dates have been shifted to the bottom of the page, where the (useless!) discord widget was located. Where the dragon flights were in the header, is now replaced by a Monthly Event box! This will be updated at the start of each month, with a fun mini-event you can take part in, if you want to! Nerreh really hoped that once the eggs hatched everyone would pointedly ignore this whole affair and pretend it never happened. They probably wouldn’t, and Nerreh would never be free of this, but he could hope. Because it had gotten unbearable since the Touching. Nerreh spent as little time as possible in public areas of the Weyr, intentionally going to meals at odd hours to avoid running into people. They still went to Weyrling classes, but once they were dismissed for the day Nerreh and Faxxonth went flying, as far from the Weyr as they were allowed to go. Probably farther, but the Weyrlingmaster didn’t seem inclined to bother them about it, which Nerreh appreciated about the man.
They hadn’t actually been at the Weyr when the eggs started to hatch. Nerreh hadn’t been able to sleep, and neither had Faxx, and even before it was properly light out they left the Weyr for another aimless flight. This time they had flown all the way to the farthest point of the island Ista was on. Sea Cliff Hold was there, though Faxxonth had landed on the cliffs nearby and neither of them had gone near the Hold itself. After brooding on the cliffs for a while in the sea air, the pair headed back to the Weyr.
It took until they were almost back to their own weyr before either of them picked up on the lackluster humming. Faxxonth almost froze mid-air, dropping several feet in surprise before backwinging furiously when he heard it, immediately filled with dread. He wasn’t ready for this, he wasn’t, he wanted to fly back to the cliffs are the far side of the island and live there for the rest of forever. They had seen a few caves, it was totally doable. The whole Hold had been built into the cliffs, after all. But no, Thallyath had made it abundantly clear that since all this was his fault, both of them had to be there.
Nerreh didn’t hear the humming at the same time, only picking up on it after Faxx had recovered from his shock. “What the fuck, Faxx?” he asked, clutching tightly onto Faxxonth’s neck, “Don’t you dare fly the entire island just to crash right outside our weyr. What’s going - oh, no. No, no, no, no, no. Fuck.” She had picked up on the humming now, pathetic as it was, and the weird feeling that seemed to permeate the Weyr.
“Well, at least it’s almost over, right?” Nerreh said darkly, not really expecting whatever happened that day to be forgotten quickly. Faxxonth moaned in response, not anticipating the rest of the day’s trials in the slightest. “C’mon, kiddo, let’s go. Someone’s surely seen us by now, can’t just fuck off anymore.” Faxxonth sighed, before turning and slowly bringing them both to the Sands.
He landed as far from Thallyath as he could manage while still being on the Sands, eyeing her nervously the entire time, searching for any sign that she was going to head in his direction. Nerreh slid off his dragon, giving Faxx a reassuring hug around his neck before cautiously crossing the Sands towards Casa. Faxxonth sat stiffly, wings pulled in tight in an attempt to be as small and unthreatening as possible.
“Sorry,” Nerreh said as she approached Casa, moving to stand near the goldrider but a little behind - supporting her, but not making any show of authority at all. He wasn’t even sure what he was apologizing for - being late, the whole situation, existing, whatever. Didn’t matter. Nerreh was sorry for all of it. Looking around, Nerreh saw all the displeased faces of just about everyone. Everyone that mattered, anyway. M’ris and Ameris, just about every bronze or brownrider who deigned to show up, and even most of the blues. She did she her mother, and her grandfather and his mate - the men waved when they saw Nerreh looking at them. Her siblings weren’t present, though, both seemed to have been left behind in Telgar. Nerreh’s cousin N’ser was there, stony-faced but he gave her a small nod when their eyes met. N’ser’s father wasn’t there though, her uncle N’yal. Nerreh humphed quietly, unsurprised. Her uncle always had been an ass.
With all the negativity, all the negativity aimed at him and Faxxonth, specifically, Nerreh had expected to spend the whole Hatching feeling sick and full of shame. But something in all those faces was making Nerreh angry. Fuck them. Fuck all these people. It wasn’t their fault, Faxx hadn’t done anything wrong. Nerreh hadn’t done anything wrong. Blues chased golds all the time - Nerreh spent turns in Telgar, after all, and anyone could see Veeth participate in every gold Flight the Weyr had - so no one could get mad about Faxx doing it. It’s not like he was the only blue who’d chased Thallyath, either. Plenty of the blueriders who gave Nerreh the most shit had dragons who’d flown for Thallyath too. Faxx wasn’t even trying to catch her! He’d just wanted to show off a little, make sure everyone knew he was blue now, he was young, he’d wanted to have fun. Honestly, Faxx hadn’t even been a full turn old, he’d gotten caught up in everything and when Thallyath challenged all her pursuers to catch her he’d listened because dragons were supposed to do what golds said, after all. It wasn’t Faxxonth’s fault all the bronzes and browns didn’t fucking try or were snooty pricks who thought Thallyath was beneath them or some shit. Fuck them. Fuck all of them.
