"Aaahh!" R'dal called out when the news of Ista's Hatching reached him. "What if we're late?" He had been down at Healer Hall to see if Madiquel was free for a visit. He didn't think to plan ahead and see if she had classes or anything, just a spur of the moment visit like he usually did with her and all friends no matter where they lived. That's where he was when word came trickling down about the cursed clutch was about to hatch. He frowned, then realised what they meant and dashed back to where Edath had been left to sun in a field, his mission to find Madiquel forgotten. She'd likely want to go to the Hatching as well but R'nya seemed to be her official escort anymore, though he couldn't blame Jajojin for cracking down on the care of his daughter.
But the Hatching! "Aaahh!" He said again as he scrambled up Edath's side, completely convinced the news was super old and they were missing everything. It didn't matter that most eggs took forever to actually crack once they started rocking but it was such a small clutch that maybe they'd be done before everyone arrived! He didn't want to be that person! Two of his friends were the riders of the parents and he had other friends Standing. What if they Impressed and he wasn't there to see it? How horrible of a friend would he be?
When they arrived in Ista, R'dal was further convinced they missed it since it was oddly quiet. No, some hum. Not all, and not Thallyath, Edath sounded as confused and sad as he felt. R'dal strained to listen as Edath glided down to Halomirth's ledge and when they were closer, he could finally catch the humming, weak and spread out. Not all the dragons were humming and that broke his heart. What did they know that he didn't?
What he did know was that F'drel was clearly still at home and that wouldn't do! It was why they went to his weyr instead of right to the Sands. Halomirth greeted them with her usual enthusiasm and between the two of them, they got F'drel to agree to go--though R'dal secretly believed the greenrider would have still gone without him there to pester him. It was a Hatching, after all! You couldn't miss one of those!
R'dal grabbed F'drel's hand once they were inside the Grounds and practically dragged the man over to where he saw R'dare sitting, claiming the seats beside him. This was so exciting! Sure, a little scary from what he heard happened at the Touching but so many of his friends were a part of this! He called out to each one he saw to smile brightly and wave at them, sometimes giving thumbs up for encouragement. He couldn't wait to see them all afterwards, some hopefully with dragonets!
