Nerreh had not even slightly seen this coming. She didn’t think Faxxonth had really expected it either, and he was the one who’d decided joining the Flight would be fun. Well, he was definitely questioning his choices just then, huddled up next to Thallyath and trying to be as unoffensive as possible. Faxxonth could tell she was, ah, not exactly thrilled by his presence. His elation at winning, at winning a gold was mostly buried under concern that Thallyath, who was indeed bigger than him, would decide she didn’t want a little upstart blue there with her and decide to squash him or something. He was not going to risk his pretty, almost fully adult, hide, oh no he wasn’t. Nerreh was impressed by Faxx’s restraint.
Faxxonth’s conflicted feelings were mirrored by his rider’s. Nerreh was relieved she hadn't ended up with some random male dragonrider — like, she’d accepted it as a possibility, but that didn’t mean she liked it — and she did actually like Casa — they were friendly, and she really was pretty — but oh boy was a blue thought to be a green catching a gold dragon going to be a downright joy to deal with. She’d just thought people would start questioning her about why her green dragon was into golds, and then trying to convince people Faxx was, in fact, blue, but this… Well, they’d see, wouldn’t they? Still, Nerreh doubted it’d be fun. Fan-fucking-tastic.
It really didn’t help that when Casa opened her eyes she took one look at Nerreh and started laughing. Laughing! What the fuck? Not that Nerreh expected it either, and if she’d been a little less overwhelmed at the moment she would have agreed that it was pretty damn funny, but right then it just stung. Was she and Faxx winning that much of a joke? What was going on in Casa’s head? She’d said ‘green,’ hadn’t she, did she really still think Faxx was green? Were people still going to think Faxx was green, even after this? What the fuck.
“Uh, hey Casa,” Nerreh said once the goldrider’s laughing fit had subsided. Beyond that, she really didn’t know what to say. ‘Surprise?’ ‘So what was that laughter about, huh?’ What a fucking introduction to Flights, Nerreh thought. Faxxonth, meekly resting beside Thallyath, expressed his silent agreement.
