Finally, the gold that everyone was starting to believe would never Fly either because she or her rider was a dud was going to rise. S’igi knew it wasn’t Casa’s fault, at least not anymore. She was apparently sweet and virginal until recent times which made sense to some degree given her age yet completely boggled the mind since she was a Katlian born brat. A lot of gossip in his circles speculated it had a lot to do with the crowd she ran in. She apparently had an adorable boyfriend as a kid that had died in the landslide and had been dating the equally adorable and virginal T’ryn until something snapped in that pretty blonde head and Casa discovered great sex.
So perhaps Thallyath was broken. He was fairly sure Z’ia had a betting pool for it. Would Thallyath ever fly? When would it happen? How many of the younger golds would go before her? As of a few days ago, the pool would have changed to exact date and time. S’igi was close to making the trip to Ista when word first reached him to get in on the action for some quick marks but he wasn’t hurting for spending money and still didn’t bother to seek out the bluerider when he finally made his way to Ista the day before in preparation for the Flight.
A courtesy note was always sent out to the other Weyrs to offer a chance at the gold Flights to help spread out the gene pool since the population was still so low but S’igi didn’t always feel the need to camp out at the other two Weyrs. What made him decide to this time? He wasn’t sure, other than the fact that he debated a hook up with the rider for his own amusement. He had offered up his bed after Bedith and Syrendryth’s disaster of a clutch left a lot of visiting riders too tired to make the trip home and he wasn’t opposed to another taste. He never ended up seeking her out, instead catching up with a few buddies drinking the night away as they played poker.
Thankfully, Thallyath was a considerate dragon and didn’t decide to fly too early in the day as S’igi had slept through the morning in his borrowed empty weyr. He had bathed and grabbed some fruit from the kitchen since he missed lunch and was too early for dinner and was just heading out of the dining cavern when Thallyath made her intent known. Looks like you’re up, Kovith. Kahleena and Okalinath were a good prize but I think this one will be even better. Go get her.
I intend to. This will be a good hunt, S’igi smirked as Kovith readied to follow Thallyath’s opening move. His dragon had always been the best hunter in their class when it came to stalking their prey, watching the herd to find the weakest link or the biggest challenge depending on his mood. He had long suspected Kovith did the same thing with gold dragons, studying them to learn their personality and weaknesses. They didn’t spend nearly enough time in Ista for a proper evaluation of Thallyath but S’igi was still confident in their skills.
He shoved his plate of fruit at the nearest person as he headed for Casa’s weyr—which he had located the night before in preparation for a quicker race to her room. With each step, S’igi merged minds with Kovith, letting the dragon guide them as he encouraged each move. By the time he’d make it to Casa, he’d be fully invested in the chase and ready to claim what was his.
