“Well, don’t you know, Casa, you’re s’pose to be an example for the rest of us,” Nerreh teased, pointing a half eaten roll at the goldrider, “so what’s the wisdom you have to share with me today?” She was grinning now. This was banter. Nerreh could do this, easy. Her own problems could be ignored for the time being in favor if being snarky and chatting with a cute goldrider who was kinda a childhood friend if you tilted your head sideways and squinted.
“But yeah, not too long left. It’s a miracle half the classes don’t die of boredom before they reach graduation. I swear, when they first started letting us fly without direct supervision they were so obsessive about being notified whenever we did anything. I was always surprised they didn’t ask us to inform them every time we had to piss. Still am, honestly. I think Faxx worries them.” Little fearless showoff that she was. Faxx had probably almost given the Weyrlingmaster a heart attack at least a few times. The class hadn’t really gotten to betweening yet, but Nerreh was sure Faxxonth would worry even more people then. Maybe she should worry more about her own safety? Nah. They were fine.
“Here, how about this for your wisdom for the Weyrling; best way to celebrate graduating?” Had Casa or her class done anything fun for graduation? Nerreh was already considering going on a really long flight somewhere — anywhere — with Faxx, but there had to be other good things to do. What were all the things she couldn’t do as a Weyrling, again?
