“Thank you, Sir,” Madiquel said sincerely, in response to the beginning of what would become his question. She fell quiet after her simple words, to very seriously consider what it was she would be answering. Her immediate response was a resounding ‘yes’, but she didn’t want to just jump in. She knew that what she would be saying ‘yes’ to would be more than just hard work attending lessons and practical session. She would also be moving away from her home and her friends; she would be surrounded by people she didn’t know, and would have to make new friends – she honestly wasn’t even sure if she’d ever made friends before, or if they’d just collected her.
She would be away from her father, for weeks or possibly even months at a time. Could she handle that? Could she dedicate to the length of time she’d be bound to the Hall? She had no idea how long it would be; she had a rough idea of how many turns most men were assigned to their Hall for, but she was a girl and she was a weyrbrat, and she wasn’t sure what standards would apply to her. R’nya had said if she was entered, she’d be trained alongside her agemates and rewarded with full ranks if she passed.
Yes, she wanted this.
“Yes, Master Verec, I would greatly like to Apprentice in your Hall.”
