While having a nap hadn’t erased the entire morning and early afternoon, F’drel was feeling a bit better when he woke up — though his neck was a little stiff from the angle at which he was resting his head on top of R’dal. A little stiffness was definitely better than how he’d been feeling earlier, at least. R’dal was already awake, or maybe F’drel shifting around had woken him up, but he offered to go get food for them. Considering the idea of leaving his weyr made F’drel want to lie down and sleep forever, he was perfectly content to let R’dal go off to get something they could eat while he had a few minutes to himself.
F’drel did spare a few minutes to fetch a few of his spare blankets from the closet. He’d even gotten a spare pillow recently — with the regularity with which R’dal slept over, he figured it couldn't hurt to have a second pillow. Bundling them all up in his arms F’drel returned to the ledge, original blanket still wrapped around his shoulders, and leaned against Miri’s side to wait for R’dal to get back.
He drifted for a few minutes, not quite asleep but not really awake either, until a knock on the door cut through and startled F’drel. Was that R’dal? He wouldn’t have knocked, would he? Confused and apprehensive, F’drel let the blanket fall off him and pool on the stone floor next to Miri to walk back into his weyr and cautiously stop before his door. If it were R’dal, the bluerider would have let himself in by now. F’drel’s heart sank, and all the different people it could be flashed through his head, each worse than the last. D’hys wasn’t coming back for some reason, was he? Or Jalazmar belatedly sending a message with something he’d forgotten to say.
Hesitantly F’drel opened the door and looked out, doing his best to hide his surprise at seeing the Weyrleader at his door. The fuck did he want? He remembered M’ris was R’dal’s father, maybe he was looking for his son and Edath or someone had revealed he was here? Or did he want something from F’drel.
“Good evening, Weyrleader,” he said politely, nodding at M’ris, “is there something I can help you with?” F’drel really hoped not. He just wanted to eat dinner and go back to sleep, maybe look at the stars with R’dal, not deal with the Weyrleader who had just that morning tricked him into meeting a lord in his office. Fuck, was that really only that morning?
