Quinvalis nearly died when Madiquel came flying at him, pulling him into a hug that crushed his already injured ribs. He gave a small noise of complaint, trying his best not to scream in pain which would freak Madiquel out and have her jumping back several feet. The girl he liked and was too afraid to say that to was hugging him and concerned over his well-being, why would he try to end this? He wrapped his arms around her, doing his best not to pass out from the pain that was increasing with each second she clung to him.
"I'm fine... mostly. I mean, it's not bad, really," He was saying it mostly to console Madiquel, but Quinvalis thought it was true as well. The Healers had given him a quick glance as they ran by him to get to those still lying on the ground, but none stopped. That had to mean his wounds weren't life threatening. Or he was about to die and they didn't see the need to help him. Grim, but also a possibility, especially if they didn't know about his sore ribs and chest area. He supposed he'd die happy in Madiquel's arms if that was the case.
Well, maybe sitting beside her, instead of standing with their arms around each other. His ankle was sore and whether or not he could still Stand, he wanted to see the rest of the Hatching. One of the eggs he touched had yet to hatch and Quinvalis hoped it would and he wanted to know who was inside. After convincing Madiquel that sitting was good for them both, he found a spot where he was out of the way but still could be seen by the Healers when they came back over to the lesser wounded and where he could see the clutch.
When the last of the eggs started breaking, Quinvalis sat up straighter, the story he was telling Madiquel to distract them both from his injuries forgotten as he watched his egg. When another bronze emerged, Quinvalis grinned and wasn't disappointed when the little guy went to someone else. Of course he hoped to Impress that day, especially to one of the ones he bonded with, but he would be useless to a dragon in his current shape and he still preferred to be back at Fort to Impress.
After another girl Impressed to a green and the last few found their mates, Quinvalis turned to Madiquel, the grin still in place. "I only touched two eggs and both hatched bronze. Think that means I'm destined for bronze or since I didn't Impress to either that any colour but bronze will be mine?" He didn't know either way but would be happy with any colour, though he really wanted a bronze like R'nya but didn't like all of the attention and responsibility that came with that colour.
When a Healer finally came over to examine him, Quinvalis told Madiquel it was okay for her to leave, knowing Rhaedalyn would be looking for her soon now that the Hatching was over. He also didn't want her to know the extent of his injuries and he had a feeling his mother, sister, and R'nya would come by soon as well. He needed to compose himself if he wanted to get through the motherly smothering and love.
