Hello loves! While I haven't been writing, I have been working on updating some issues that have been hanging around on the layout! The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Green and Gold dragon flight dates have been shifted to the bottom of the page, where the (useless!) discord widget was located. Where the dragon flights were in the header, is now replaced by a Monthly Event box! This will be updated at the start of each month, with a fun mini-event you can take part in, if you want to! It had become habit over the past few weeks for Mulrissa to visit Bedith on the Sands, usually for an hour or so, before she headed up to her weyr to settle in for the evening. Following the average time Clutches spent on the Sands, Bedith’s should have Hatched a few days ago. Bedith was unconcerned, and Rissa knew there was natural variation in dragon hatching times just as there was in human pregnancies, but the excited tension in the Weyr was palpable as each day passed without any sound or motion from an egg. She could tell the Candidates were getting antsy, and she Mulrissa herself rather wanted to go back to her usual routines. Not that she didn't see Bedith all the time, but the gold stayed on the Sands at all times and Rissa missed having her nearby all the time. Besides, she knew Bedith missed being able to do things. The gold had expressed a longing to hunt for herself, even if she did get great satisfaction out of Syrendryth hunting for her. Mulrissa didn’t entirely get the desire to kill your own food, but she wasn’t a dragon and just scratched Bedith consolingly when the gold had admitted it.
This time, when Rissa stepped out onto the warm Sands with a greeting to Bedith, something was different. Her gold was watching the eggs with an unfamiliar intensity and Mulrissa frowned, not sure how to interpret the swirls of emotion from her dragon — until she saw one of the eggs wobble slightly. With a gasp, Mulrissa hurried to stand next to her dragon, joining her in intently staring at the eggs.
They hatch, Bedith said smugly, giving a soft hum as another egg twitched. Rissa leaned into the gold’s shoulder, watching the eggs for another long moment before bringing herself to think on practical things.
“I need to tell everyone so they can prepare, though I imagine most of them will know soon enough anyway,” she said quietly, still staring at the Clutch.
Syrendryth gets a message before anyone else, Bedith informed her, considering that the proper way to do things. Mulrissa smiled at that and gave her a pat on the leg. “Of course, love, I’ll send theirs first. I’ll just get that done and be back momentarily.” With a brief hug to Bedith’s leg, letting her know how proud and excited she was for the gold, Rissa rushed off the Sands and back to her weyr. She quickly wrote three notes again — for T’ryn, Indivara, and the Weyrleader — and changed clothes to something both a bit nicer and a bit more comfortable for spending hours on the Sands. The weather may be cooling down as the turn started coming to a close, but the Sands stayed hot in all seasons. Outfit changed, Mulrissa headed back through the halls, stopping the first person she knew who had a firelizard and asked to borrow a flit for a minute. Thankfully, her request was agreed to and moments later the little thing was popping between to Ista, then to Indivara, then the Weyrleader, stopping back with Rissa between each jump to pick up the next note.
Notifications dealt with, she hurried back to Bedith and the eggs. As she once again walked onto the Sands Mulrissa could already hear the increasing hum as dragons throughout the Weyr started realizing the eggs were hatching. Really, she could have gone without the notes to Indivara and the Weyrleader, but it was polite to send them and both she and Bedith felt strongly about going about things the right way.
Mulrissa returned to Bedith, climbing up to sit on the gold’s foreleg and join her in her nearly-complete vigil over the clutch. She wondered for a moment how long it would take for this many eggs to hatch, and how much sleep she’d be getting that night, but the thoughts were quickly dismissed as trivial. This was Bedith’s first Clutch that was hatching, nothing else mattered but the eggs and her dragon. Bedith huffed softly in agreement, never taking her eyes off the increasing number of slowly rocking eggs.
