R'nd was well and truly used to B'jin when he was so irritable. They had spent too much time together over the years for him not to see the signs of Larrikith about to Fly. At first, it was something that bothered R'nd. It would come on out of the blue and he felt like he did something wrong to upset B'jin so much. As soon as Larrikith took to the skies and the Flight was over, everything was right again and it was obvious the mood was just a build up and nothing personal.
He often reflected on how cranky B'jin became. R'nd knew a lot of greenriders and most seemed grumpy just before their dragon rose but nothing was on a level with B'jin. A lasting theory of his was the relationship between dragon and rider. They were often bickering and R'nd knew B'jin hadn't wanted to Impress; he had been happy in his pampered life of a Harper. That strain might have been what caused the man to be so miserable for a day every four months. He never dared to ask B'jin about it though, always finding discussions about their pasts to be something tip toed through lest they find the one topic that was sore. R'nd was fairly open with his own, especially with such a chatty sister back in his life, but B'jin was more tight-lipped.
So he had put up with every complaint silently and even stretched out on the couch at his grumpy greenrider's insistence. He could have waited for B'jin to fall asleep and crawl into bed after him but R'nd was fine giving the man his space and waiting it out. Ayyonth agreed with him that Larrikith would likely wake everyone up around dawn, definitely by midday meal if she was being nice and letting people sleep.
When he was nudged awake a few hours later, R'nd was a bit groggy and allowed himself to be led back to bed, barely containing his eye rolls at B'jin wondering why he was on the couch. It was only three times a year but they were exhausting times and he happily fell back asleep ith B'jin wrapped around him.
Larrikith's shriek woke R'nd and he chuckled softly when Ayyonth told him it was dawn before taking off to chase his mate. They knew the green pair too well, it seemed. He turned his attention to B'jin and returned the coy smile with an amused one as he settled in for Ayyonth to take control and have his fun chasing Larrikith before the inevitable --at least it had better be!-- win.
