Xyliah pouted slightly and sighed, offering Jalazmar a gentle smile at the affectionate kiss. “I’m not really hungry,” she said, realising it was true as she spoke. She honestly hadn’t eaten much that day, but that was primarily because her mind had drawn conclusions and they freaked her out slightly. Warm brown eyes watched the big cat eye Jalazmar off for several moments before languidly relocating himself on her husband’s chest. Xyliah’s pout reappeared. “Traitor,” she said softly to the cat, laughing under her breath when his ear twitched as he sprawled across Jalazmar’s chest. She couldn’t blame him, she liked sprawling there, too.
Shifting herself, Xyliah crawled closer to Jalazmar and snuggled up against him, resting her head in on his shoulder, her hand stroking Sunshine’s head and tugging on his ear as she contemplated what she wanted to bring up, and how to go about it. It wasn’t something they’d talked about, at all. But Xyliah knew it was something that was expected to happen. She knew that most women in her position would be thrilled, but Xyliah was terrified of the prospect of being pregnant, and she felt terrible about it. Guilt wasn’t really an emotion Xyliah was familiar with, and she didn’t enjoy it.
Xyliah sighed softly, and decided to just get it out. She still wasn’t sure how she was going to word it, but she couldn’t keep chewing on it. She liked Jalazmar, and she respected him, and she wasn’t sure he’d like being in the dark about a pregnancy as the rest of the household slowly clued in. Especially since the women like Yanzi and Kelikki would likely figure it out quickly – if Yanzi hadn’t already – and Xyliah didn’t think it’d be nice to be the last to know when he should be one of the first!
“I –” she had to stop, swallowing to wet her dry throat and refusing to look up and see what kind of expression or emotions were on Jalazmar’s face. She was afraid he’d be unhappy, but she was also terrified he’d be excited. She just wasn’t ready to be a mother yet! “I might be pregnant,” she whispered, her voice vibrating with all her conflicted emotions. She stubbornly glued the side of her face to Jalazmar’s shoulder, and scrunched her eyes shut, as if she could put a hold on whatever his response would be.
