Jalazmar had adapted well to married life. It helped that Xyliah was attractive, funny, and intelligent so they could carry conversations when they weren’t enjoying each other physically. What he had decided he didn’t like out of the arrangement his father had put into place was actually running a household. He never had to do anything at home in High Reaches, he only had to study when he was fostered, and he only mooched off Gabrin and played with the pretty ladies when he was in Telgar. Now he actually had to work and keep track of what everyone was doing. He didn’t like it and debated putting someone in charge to do everything and just run it by him for final approval. He’d been told that was something he could do but it was best to have his own hand in everything for a while first and he continued to do so, grumbling about it regularly with his wife.
His very absent wife, he noted when he left his office for the dining room. They had taken to late meals, partly due to their enjoyment of starting the day late and partly due to his habit of putting off too much work until the last minute and working later than he should. Frowning and not all together convinced it wasn’t later than he thought it was, Jalazmar set off to Xyliah’s personal sitting room but continued on his mission when he found that room empty as well.
He found her on his next stop, their bedroom. He peeked in and smiled when she greeted him and entered, closing the door behind him. She seemed distracted if her expression was anything to go by and Jalazmar wondered if she had lost track of time as well and how hungry she was. “Hey. Normally you beat me to dinner and when I didn’t see you I decided I was either extremely late or something stole your attention away from a meal that smells rather delicious.”
Coming to a stop beside the bed, Jalazmar bent down and kissed Xyliah’s forehead, “I can arrange for something light to be brought up if you’re unwell.” He didn’t think she was but she seemed worried and given she had Sunshine in her lap as well, Jalazmar knew something was wrong. Not that she wasn’t often cuddling with the cat but the whole scenario seemed out of character for the lively girl he knew. Flopping down on the bed near Xyliah, Jalazmar laid on his back and patted his chest for Sunshine to come to him like he sometimes did.
