Maybe she was on to something. The enthusiasm by which Dessa attempted to sell the Telgar Hold to her was telling, in a way. Maybe the woman had a truly altruistic heart after all. It wasn't something Onari was all that used to. There had been those few, shining exceptions but...
Onari's eyes flickered up to Dessa's.
There was something there. Distant, maybe, but tangible all the same. A sort of caring that felt familiar to Onari in a way that made her shoulders draw back to resist against another chill. Maybe she was worth trusting. Maybe, just maybe, Dessa was Onari's chance to do what she set out to do. Admittedly, it was a lot to bank on a single person. But Onari's instincts were hardly ever wrong, and she could feel... something... when looking back into Dessa's glowing, kindly gaze.
"Do you think," the girl started, shifting the child carefully in her lap so not to wake her as she leaned forward. "this is the kind of place... you know... where you can just... start over?"
