There was no leaving this, was there?
Onari's movements were sluggish as she glanced into the cart, eyeing the blankets in question with a slight grimace. Not that she was put off by the fabric -- it was the best she'd had for a long while -- but the way her stomach swam at the sudden movement wasn't at all pleasant. Her head was frothy, and with a frown, she stumbled into a stand.
Nlani was there in an instant, tiny little hands grasping her waist. Onari's palm encapsulated the child's head.
"I can do it fine," she insisted, a slow blink punctuating her words. "Why don't you take the blankets, sweetpea? You haven't slept for a bit."
"Mom," Nlani whined.
"I can sleep up against the wall--" Onari urged, using what strength she had to carefully trundle into the back of the cart. It was by no means a graceful climb. She slipped once, bolstered only by the sudden presence of hands she felt at her back, before she collapsed into a heap near the blankets. She punctuated the landing with a slovenly grin, as if to say, See? I'm fine.
Nlani didn't look convinced in the slightest.
Onari's gaze swept to Dessa, and she craned her neck up slightly. "Thank you. This is extraordinarily kind."
