Madiquel pouted unhappily at the reminder that Ayontay would be staying in Ista Weyr with his young dragon, and not going to her home in Fort with her; it would have been so much better if he'd Impressed there! She was looking forward to going home and seeing her Papa – the trip away from him had been hard and she’d found the nights to be incredibly lonely knowing her father wasn’t right there if she needed him, even though the other women in the room she’d been assigned were nice enough. The days were easy to get through, with friends and the anticipation of the upcoming Hatching, but she’d spent most nights silently crying herself to sleep. She missed her papa and her home and her bed. And now she wouldn’t have Ayontay around to spend time with. Madiquel sighed softly and dropped her head on Ayontay’s shoulder, still pouting.
“You Hatched in the wrong Weyr,” she told Xyxyth with a sad playfulness, smiling with her lips though her eyes were sad. Sitting up properly, she flashed a bright smile at Ayontay, not wanting him to be upset about his Impression. “You’ll have to send Shadow to let me know when you have important lessons!” She said, clasping the sponge between both hands and not noticing the way it dripped on her lap. “So I can get Papa to let me come watch!” She wanted to be there when Xyxyth and Ayontay went for their first flight and between training was scary but she had to be present for that! What if something awful happened to someone in their class? She’d be worried sick thinking it was Ayontay and Xyxyth! No, she definitely had to be present for at least the first one of those classes!
Madiquel giggled when Ayontay said they should switch to the oil and Xyxyth commented on that. Her gaze shifted to the little green dragon and she giggled again, enjoying the way the baby was dancing around. “Do you want to dance, too?” She asked Xyxyth, her voice playfully teasing. She didn’t know, but he seemed rather serious to be dancing around like his sister. Maybe he’d surprise her, though! That would be fun! Standing up gracefully, Madiquel fetched the bucket of oil closer and collected a second cloth so she could assist still. Returning, she set the bucket down beside her friend and dipped the cloth in, wriggling her fingers with a giggle at the silky and slimy feeling of the liquid oil on her hands.
Waiting just long enough for Ayontay to be the first one to slap the sweet relief on his dragon, Madiquel slicked the cloth over Xyxyth’s hip and down the back of his leg, watching the way it lit up his bronze hide. “So beautiful,” she whispered, almost awestruck.
