A’tay dipped his head in embarrassment when he realised after the fact that there was only one sponge. Of course there would be, only one human bonded to a dragon so they didn’t need more than one of each item to get through the cleaning. He was relieved when another sponge appeared and smiled at Madiquel as she jumped right into the task as well, noting her hand on his knee as she did so. He really wished he had found the courage before the Hatching to confess his feelings for her. Then again, it was probably best he hadn’t. If she had returned them, they would have to be put on hold for Xyxyth. At that thought, the dragon turned to look at him, head tilted to the side in consideration but thankfully didn’t say anything as Madiquel distracted them.
Am I? Xyxyth looked back to where the girl was running her fingers over his hide and considered the light pattern there. He supposed it was rather lovely and crooned softly in thanks for the compliment. At a nudge from A’tay, Xyxyth stood up so they could reach under him which gave him a chance to look around at his own hide a bit more, though he knew from A’tay’s thoughts that it would change as he got older, which seemed a shame.
“Don’t worry; without you here to help, it’d be a total waste of an injury,” A’tay laughed as he squeezed his sponge along Xyxyth’s side, sending rivers of water running down to the sand below. He was having to concentrate on keeping his wounded hand in his lap as he found at first he wanted to keep steadying himself against Xyxyth with it or to pull the bucket closer. “And I hope he doesn’t get to be thaaat big! I don’t know how T’ryn manages to keep Syrendryth bathed and oiled so regularly. I swear once he’s done he has to start again. Luckily for us, I think we’re about ready to switch to the oil.”
Finally. The water and sponge were nice but look at how happy my sister is with the oil on her, Xyxyth nodded in the direction of a green bouncing from foot to foot as her bonded finished up applying the oil, laughing along with her.
