He had Veeth to thank for his current companions.
R'vi had heard about the small winter gathering at the farm of R'nd's sister and he was kind of excited. Okay, he was ridiculously excited. He was born in Ista, grew up in Katila, and was back in Ista. He hadn't really had much of a chance to explore the more northern areas beyond the brief time he lived in Telgar. But winter games and snow itself seemed like fun and he had to properly check it out.
So, naturally, Indivara was at the top of the list of people to drag along on the adventure. She had been her usual stubborn self, doing her best to resist and then insisting she'd go if good ol' V'ler went as well. R'vi was close to giving up thanks to that condition, knowing V'ler could be just as stubborn and hated the cold but then Veeth chimed in. The sweet blue dragon with the even sweeter lyrical voice wanted to play in snow as well and thought it'd be fun so they should all go.
And so they all went.
Although, now that they were there and landing, R'vi was starting to understand V'ler's dislike of the cold. He was glad for the tip he had heard about wearing a good sweater under his riding jacket, though he was already starting to envy V'ler's warm-looking scarf he was huddled in. Still, they were there for fun and a little cold wasn't going to slow him down!
It might me, though, Vydoriath grumbled as he landed and started bouncing from foot to foot as the snow tumbled on his paws and got in between his claws. It was an interesting texture but a bit too cold. He wondered what it tasted like and as he settled down and crouched so R'vi could get down. Vydoriath first sniffed at the snow and then flicked his tongue at it. It didn't taste like anything and he gave the equivalent of a mental shrug to his rider who was watching him.
Figuring Vydoriath would be fine with it soon enough, R'vi turned his attention to his companions that were also dismounting not too far from. "What should we do first?" He looked around at the open space, noting some other riders were also there. Some played off in the distance, though he couldn't be sure what they were doing, but he did see a lot of snow being kicked up. Then there was the pond that was iced over with people gliding around on it.
While he waited for an answer, R'vi gave into his curiosity and crouched down to inspect the snow. They had had a little when he was in Telgar, but given the Weyr was a bit warmer, it never accumulated as much as this. He was also one of the younger riders so he wasn't allowed to go too far from the Weyr while tensions were still high between them and the Holders. Now, though, he was able to fully examine the white stuff and he poked it. Then he pressed his palm down on it, leaving behind a hand print. On impulse, he picked up a handful and marvelled at it when it compacted and formed a ball. This was so cool!
"Di! Look at this!" He stood and underhand tossed the snowball at Indivara so she could see his masterpiece.
