V’ler admitted he was relieved to hear Indivara was still against the idea of being a mom and didn’t feel any guilt over it either. There had been a small teeny tiny sliver of a chance that Indivara might suddenly decide to try raising a kid, especially since they were now officially official. He didn’t want to be that hands on of a dad and he really couldn’t see either of them focusing so much on someone else that needed constant attention and assistance for far longer than he cared to think about. They both had their careers, so to speak, to think about and he doubted Indivara would put aside her change at being a Weyrlingmaster to raise their spawn. In fact, he believed Indivara would be right there beside B’jin until the moment she went into labour, learning all that she could and scaring as many Candidates as possible. She’d likely use the pregnancy as a way to scare them as much as she did her scars.
He missed most of Indivara’s excitement when she remembered Rhaedalyn might be willing to take the baby off their hands, caught up in his own musings and what they should and could do. Should they try to find a dragon to take care of the trip? How would Venseth react if they did? Why did Venseth think having a child would make things even better for them? V’ler was most certainly happy with how things were.
He snapped out of his thoughts long enough to catch Indivara deciding Rhaedalyn might want to add to her family and frowned at the paper that was suddenly in front of him. With a sigh and a glance at Indivara that spoke volumes of what he thought of the idea – mainly a ‘really?’ – V’ler suddenly smirked and put quill to paper.
Dear Rhaedalyn,
Indivara is pregnant again. Do you want the child?
Circle the appropriate answer:
YES NO
V’ler
Before Indivara could stop him – if she even saw what he had written – V’ler rolled up the paper and tapped Quill on the nose. The gentler of his two blue firelizards had been content to sit on his right shoulder, sharing the same interest Veeth had in watching him write and create. Sometimes he forget Quill was even there, so used to the weight and presence. Vex, however, was sleeping on the back opposite corner of the desk from where Indivara kept sitting. The paper was given to Quill with a soft instruction to bring the letter to Rhaedalyn and wait for a reply if asked to. Quill took off from his shoulder and a moment later the firelizard vanished to do his task.
“Happy now?” He knew she wouldn’t be, not until Rhaedalyn replied back in the affirmative or perhaps had an idea for someone else to take the child.
