Ayontay, like most everyone else, was intimidated by Jajojin given his large size and somewhat afraid of him given how unstable he could be. However, he always liked how Madiquel never seemed to be or even notice that she should be, as she always freely babbled at him about the day or dragged him into whatever excitement she was currently wrapped up in. Like now. Ayontay was smiling as he watched the way she dragged him around and gave directions for hanging her new name sign. He didn’t seem annoyed by it but more like he enjoyed being a part of her life. He really liked their relationship and was even a little envious of it.
When it came to the other sign, Ayontay almost choked on the laughter that her impromptu cleaning had brought about. The sign would be the first and last thing she saw every day? Did that mean she’d think of him at those times as well? Ayontay was pretty sure he was in a coma and having a delightful dream. Then again, it didn’t mean she’d think of him or if she did, not in the way he thought about her. So he just smiled, proud that his work was so well-received and made someone else happy.
“R’dal said he’d give me a ride back tomorrow, cuz you know he’s already asleep,” he laughed again, knowing they both knew how much that particular friend loved his naps and a proper night’s sleep. “I’ll probably stay with him tonight but if you’re not ready for bed, I can stay a bit longer and we can trade Weyr gossip.” At her agreement to the idea, Ayontay smiled again and they both flopped on her bed, their usual hang out spot for such chats. Shadow curled up in his lap and he lazily pet the firelizard as Madiquel recounted a story she heard that morning.
