Appearance
Hair: Q'len's hair is fairly straight and a light to medium brown. He wears it long, usually between chin and shoulder length. He puts it up sometimes, but not often. Mostly for flying.
Height: 5'8"
General Appearance: He's of fairly average build for a dragonrider. Athletic enough, from caring for a dragon, but a bit softer than a lot of the other riders. Q'len has never bothered much with keeping himself fit, at least no effort beyond necessary activities.
Due to his fairly spectacular glasscrafting apprenticeship, his hands and forearms are dotted with small burns from his various disastrous attempts at crafting.
Dressing Style: Q'len is not a picky dresser, as long as it's clean and comfy he will wear it. He loves soft things like sweaters. Can't knit for the life of him (he's tried), but he has a lot of soft, knitted things, and wears sweaters and scarves as long as he possibly can into the warmer months.
Personality
Of course, because he's constantly embarrassing himself Q'len is super compassionate towards other people doing dumb or embarrassing shit. While his dragon cares only about herself and her rider, Q'len can't help but care about and want to help others, even when it's detrimental to his own happiness or wellbeing.
Habits/Mannerisms: He's always pushing his hair behind his ears, especially when nervous.
Opinions:
Threadfall Theory: History says it will happen, so it will.
Stealing/Kidnapping: What, they could have Searched him sooner?
Weryrleader S'kef: N/A
Firelizards: Love them.
Women's loss of honourifics: N/A
Return North: It's amazing! It's so amazing!
Likes:
Reading: It's one of the few things he's always been good at, and Q'len continues to take great joy in the activity.
Being Warm: He grew up in a crafthall that heavily relied on hot fires, he's used to the warmth and gets cold easily.
Bright Colors: Q'len just thinks colors are cheerful and weyrs can be so drab, all stone and all, so he likes to decorate with lots of bright colors.
Dislikes:
Being Reminded of Glasscrafting: It was a hard time in his life full of failure. He doesn't like to think about it. Some of the archiving stuff is fine, but actual glassmaking? Pretend it never happened.
Unnecessarily Mean People: Why, just why? Why do people have to be like that?
Dislike 3:
Strengths:
Passionate: Even if he's bad at something, Q'len will give it his all and keep trying just about forever.
Memory: Q'len has a fantastic memory for random information. Not so great for remembering whether or not he took a bath or had lunch on a given day, but he can recite a whole lot of history.
Understanding: Due to being not-so-great at a lot of things, Q'len is pretty compassionate towards other people and accepting of other's flaws and shortcomings; if he's not accepting of others, who will be accepting of him?
Flaws:
Inept: He's just. Not that good at a lot of stuff. He tries, but he's really only good at reading and remembering random facts.
Abrupt: Q'len has a tendency to hop between ideas and topics very quickly, and people can't always follow his train of thought. It's not uncommon for him to start talking about something completely out of the blue that he can provide a very complex and difficult to follow path of how he got there.
Messy: He totally knows where all his stuff is, thank you, it's right... somewhere.

Past Lovers/Partners: Probably a few women pre-Searching, since he was sweet even if a bit of a loser. He was probably head over heels for them and he was a minor entertainment for them.
Current Lovers/Partners: Do Flight winners count?
Children: None? Hopefully?
Background Story:
710 AL & Birth: Quelendar is born the second son and third child of Menander and Quanara.
715 AL & 5 Turns: He's already begging his parents to let him learn to read and go to classes like his older brother.
723 AL & 13 Turns: Quelendar is officially apprenticed at the Glasscrafthall. He is the second of his siblings to do so. He quite frankly has a real bad time of it, failing at almost all the practical tasks of the craft.
727 AL & 17 Turns: The glasshall archivist takes Quelendar as a personal apprentice. Quelendar is absolutely overjoyed, because it means he gets to read and write instead of constantly burn his hands and publicly fuck up.
732 AL & 22 Turns: The hall allows Quelendar to advance to Journeyman, but it's pretty clear to everyone he'll never pass that rank. He is a good enough archivist however, so his skills there are the reason he ever passes his apprenticeship.
735 AL & 25 Turns: Quelendar is among the first group of officially Searched Candidates since the plague, in the first month or so of the turn. He Impresses not long after, to green Leith, becoming Q'len. There was a bit of awkwardness about him being from a Hall, but he had honestly been planning on quitting anyway, and the Hall considered him a bit of an embarrassment and having him Searched instead of dropping out saved face for both them (especially his master glasscrafter father) and Quelendar, so it was allowed.
736 AL & 26 Turns: He didn't have any opinions about what Weyr he lived in, so let the leadership place him and Leith wherever they felt like. They ended up in Fort.
739 AL & 29 Turns: Volunteered to help fight the Istan fires, since he grew up there and worried about everyone he knew there.

Education
Craft: Glasscraft
Specialty: Fucking up
Craft Rank: Sr. Apprentice
Date Apprenticed: 11.07.723 AL
Date Tapped: 06.08.732 AL
Education Details: As a glasscrafting apprentice, Quelendar was a disaster. Almost everything he made ended up in the slag heap or kept by the teachers to use as examples of what not to do for future apprentices. He just couldn't get the hang of it. He knew all the theory, but just couldn't get anything to work. Outside of glassmaking, Quelendar excelled at reading and remembering information. By the time he was Searched, he had managed to become personal apprentice to the archivist at the crafthall, but was still an apprentice at 24 turns as he never gained enough practical skill to advance.

Hatching Date: 26.04.735 AL
Birthing Weyr: Telgar / Katila

Clutch Father: bronze Vleyth
Appearance:
Length: 23'
Height: 10.1'
Wingspan: 32.2'
Scars & Markings: Picked up a couple minor scratches from Flights, nothing major.
Weyrlinghood: Round and a bright, leafy green, with slightly darker mottling along her back, with some on her legs and wings. Her front half is oddly smaller than her back half as a hatchling.
Adulthood: Leith's coloration didn't change drastically. The darker green along her back retreated, covering less of her body, and she gained a lighter, yellower green on her underside. Her body fixed it's proportion issues in weyrlinghood, and she's a surprisingly well-proportioned adult. Her headknobs are a little longer than average.
Mindvoice: Leith sounds like she's always smiling. Her voice is warm and amused.
General Character Traits: This should be at least two paragraphs, generally encompassing the things included in the above sections, as well as introducing any other aspects that didn't fit into those, but still applies to the character.
Habits/Mannerisms: Starts phrases with 'oh!' a lot.
Likes:
Gossip: Leith loves hearing about things! And people! And then telling other people all about it!

Strengths:
Vivacious: Leith isn't one for being still, and tends to be very lively.
Excitable: She goes from 0 to 100 on everything, and her enthusiasm knows know bounds. If it's something she doesn't like, however, Leith is also enthusiastically against it.
Witty: Leith is a bit cheeky and loves coming up with clever things to say, usually commentary on others but sometimes teasing her own rider as well.
Flaws:
Selfish: No one is more important than her and Q'len, and she'll always do things that are best for them. The well-being of others just isn't a priority to her.
Rowdy: Leith wants to have fun, and if something is too boring she will shake it up. Often to the annoyance or detriment of others.
Spiteful: She does not tolerate those who slight her, and she will remember all perceived slights and then be nasty to the offenders.

It was a perfectly average day, as Fort finally started warming up after the winter so everyone was spending time outside, enjoying the weather. Q'len was outside, and the weather was nice, but he wasn't enjoying himself nearly as much as everyone else seemed to be. It was over something stupid, too. One of his friends, a bluerider, had stopped by Fort Hold the other day to buy the finer things the Weyr didn't supply them with, and earlier that day he'd shown off a few of his acquisitions. One of the things was a pretty little glass pendant he'd bought for some girl he liked, which was fine on it's own, but Q'len had recognized the style. He knew who had made the piece, was in fact very well acquainted with the crafter: his older brother. Menqander was a Senior Journeyman now, and apparently his work was considered good enough now that it was being traded between Holds. Which wasn't bad! Q'len was proud of his brother, just, well, it gave him a few less than pleasant emotions to deal with. Like the eternal shame of his own failure as a glasscrafter.
You're thinking too hard, Leith complained, from where she lay several lengths away making a meal of some unfortunate creature. Q'len sometimes couldn't believe how used to the crunching of bones he had gotten, but it barely phased him now. At least in the context of an eating dragon. He'd probably still freak out over bone crunching in other contexts, but thankfully he hadn't had opportunity to test that.
"What should I think about instead?" Q'len asked her, sighing at his green dragon. She snorted before taking another bite.
Something less depressing. Anything.
"How very helpful your suggestions are," he grumbled, but he tried to focus back in on the book that was lying half open in his lap. It had been intended as a distraction from his thoughts, but it had been failing in its task. Maybe the eleventh time was the charm?
