T’bia flinched visibly, both when M’dox asked him what was wrong – as if he didn’t know! – and when the young man asked if it was because he had laughed. T’bia just stared, eyes swimming in tears he refused to let fall. He wouldn’t let him see him cry! He’d done so well over the past couple of Turns of not letting people see how much they could upset him! He was going so well, but this afternoon had been so fun and he had thought he’d made a new friend, and then the other guy laughed at him. T’bia’s bottom lip trembled slightly and he couldn’t stop the tears that finally spilled free, toppling down his cheeks without restraint. He was too nervous to wipe them away.
To say T’bia was slightly overwhelmed when M’dox began his rampage of words, would have been an understatement. He was so surprised he even managed to think a broken Is this how I sound? at Jycenth, who crooned his amusement but didn’t deny that T’bia did often sound like the other man as he rambled to fill the silence. Or explain himself. Often very badly. T’bia blinked, and his eyes dried a little, though he could feel the salty stickiness of the tears that had fallen upon his cheeks. T’bia felt his face heating up as he realised that M’dox’s laughter had been completely innocent and one hundred percent not aimed at him. How foolish he was! To think everything was about himself! T’bia chewed on his bottom lip, rubbed his eyes, and then hugged himself anxiously.
“I’m sorry,” He offered, voice a low murmur. He was so embarrassed. How could he be so stupid? In his defence, it often was at his expense when other people laughed in his presence, but hadn’t M’dox been nothing but nice to him? How had T’bia repaid that kindness? By accusing him of being mean to him! “I’m sorry!” T’bia almost cried, staring anxiously at M’dox. “I shouldn’- I mean – I don’t – I mean…. You shoulldn’t have to worry about thinking when you’re talking to your dragon and I’m sorry I took it personally. I’m so stupid like that. I’m sorry! Please don’t be mad…”I don’t think he’s mad, sweetheart. I think he’s sad.
That just horrified T’bia even more. “Don’t be sad!”
