So much yet so little was happening at once. Eggs were rocking and shells were beginning to crack but not much came of it. A dragonet did appear and an Impression was made before Valerian could even attempt to place a name to the girl. Since he couldn't even place her face in classes or around the barracks, he figured she really wasn't that important or exciting and shrugged it off. He'd just ask to see the record of the Hatching later on to make his own notes from. If he was lucky, B'jin would be the one recording it so it'd be a lot easier to acquire such paperwork and take his time with it. His thoughts on plans for what to do once this was all over were cut short when another dragonet appeared on the scene and worked its way toward them. Only when he heard Erisi's voice followed by Kerrin's did Valerian scan the group of Candidates, squinting to see the ones further away in the fading light, to find the source of the voices.
He stifled his amusement upon seeing Erisi's stiff form as one of the curious creatures moved around him and then Kerrin, who seemed eager to own the little guy and no doubt the remaining unhatched dragons as well. Erisi was looking around as if trying to find someone or maybe an escape route and Valerian sighed. His friend was going to give himself a panic attack and pass out on the hot sands and no one wanted that since they would never hear the end of the ranting over how embarrassed he was or that he had sand in his hair and other areas where it most certainly shouldn't be. Still, even with concern for his fellow Harper, Valerian stayed where he was to watch the dragonet continue wandering around until it found someone worthy of its attention but not before Echlerov had Impressed. At the vintner's soft reassurances, Valerian watched the man smile brightly and found even he was smiling as he watched the scene. He didn't know Echlerov very well and other than the guy seeming to find the healer girl to be decent company, Valerian was okay with him and was glad he Impressed after missing doing so for the clutch he had been Stolen for.
As a silence fell over the sands and continued to stretch on for far longer than it needed to be in Valerian's opinion, the Harper decided it was best to reassure Erisi that he wasn't alone in this and probably wasn't going to be eaten by a dragonet. A quick look at Allendris showed his roommate and semi-friend was caught up in everything and seemed to be stuck in stare-only mode. Valerian ran his hand through his hair in frustration. He couldn't leave this man behind either since if he was jumped by a friendly or vicious dragonet the glass-smith probably wouldn't react well, if at all. Once again he found himself grabbing for the man's hand to drag him along. He did that quite a bit, he realized, but didn't really see an issue with it since it ensured Allendris actually got out and did things and, in this case, avoided injury. No one would be happy if that pretty face of his was marred in any way.
A quick glance around for G'rem and any other rider looking for a reason to snap at them showed everyone's attention was either firmly in place on the eggs or on someone else they were talking with. He wasn't sure if walking around during a Hatching was appropriate but Erisi and Kerrin weren't that far away and Valerian was fine with receiving a lecture he could tune out later on if he had to. The things he did for the oddballs he had befriended! With Allendris in one hand, Valerian placed his other on Erisi's arm when they reached him, "didn't think I abandoned you, did you?"
Now that the little group of four was assembled - and when had he adopted Kerrin into the fold? At least he was entertaining more than annoying - Valerian turned his gaze back to the eggs. Which one would hatch next and would it pick any of them? Would it pick him? So far he hadn't been nervous, merely observing as a Harper would on the sidelines but now it seemed more like he was a participant and the reality that he could walk away with a dragon in tow and not Allendris was setting in. Suddenly he wasn't sure how he wanted the outcome to go for himself or his friends and he had no idea who would Impress, though he suspected there had to be one in there that would look for Kerrin given the brat's determination and how he hung around the dragonriders.
