Talian really admired B'jin. In spite of those involuntary cries and hoarse sobs, B'jin had taken what must have been terrible pain with remarkable bravery. Talain suddenly realized his hands were cramping from the tight fists he held while watching the horrible spectacle. He was distantly aware of the discomfort around him - Erisi turning his eyes away, Valerian clutching tightly to Larrikith. The dragon herself looked terrified, an emotion Talian had never expected to see in the stubborn, prideful beast.
Then, it was over. Those last cries were heart-wrenching for Talian, so much that he started walking forward without thoughts. B'jin's back was shredded. He needed attention! Heart pounding and blood surging, Talian ducked through the crowd to meet his friend and provide what help he could.
He stopped cold when S'kef threatened him. Soft eyes widened as Talian eyed the whip, so terrified that he froze where he stood. He swallowed hard and looked at the brownrider with disbelieving terror. "I'm a healer..." he said defensively, voice so shallow that S'kef probably couldn't even make out what he was saying. Talian's shock only intensified when B'jin rose to his defense.
"B'jin! No...n-not for me.." Talian panted, suddenly terrified that his friend was going to get in trouble again for his sake. How horrible that would be! Talian peeled away from the frightening brownrider with timidity and desperation as B'jin pulled him away. "B'jin...don't worry," Talian purred his his 'doctor' voice, warmer and calmer than his usual mincing mode of speech.
He winced, hesitating for just a moment as he saw Erisi walking over to the Weyrleader. Tal was torn. He wanted to go defend Erisi, but B'jin was in terrible shape. Besides, as a healer, it was his duty. "Be careful, Eri!" he called out nervously before turning back to B'jin, just in time to see the greenrider topple over...and to see R'nd catch him.
Tal didn't know R'nd, but right now he didn't care. With the focus of a well-trained surgeon, he took a confident step forward and motioned to B'jin. "Get him to his hut. I'll be there soon with medical supplies," he said pleadingly. His fear was melting away in the place of urgency - not frantic urgency, but the kind of urgency that put him into his most focused and intense moods. He was a healer, this is what he did....and he was more than happy to do it for one of the most important people in his life.
He didn't wait for them to go before turning on his heels and bolting for the healing hall to gather supplies. He imagined the shadow that passed over him was that of the blue.
