R’nd wasn’t quite sure what to think about N’mor flirting with Einin. He had no designs on the girl himself due to matters of the heart concerning B’jin that he didn’t like to overthink but revolved around the simple fact that he loved the greenrider. It was simply seeing N’mor flirt that was odd. The boy had always had that type of effect on him and while he wouldn’t say he didn’t trust the young bronzerider, he also didn’t peg him as being friendly on the verge of flirting. Then again, he was a teenaged boy and those desires crept up on everyone, including soul-staring boys—and his son. R’nd had a moment of realization that his son was old enough to take such an interest in others and while R’nd didn’t feel he needed to have any sort of talks with T’ryn since he was both weyrbred and had a good head on his shoulders, he did feel he was suddenly ridiculous old and the plate of desserts started to look like comfort food.
He almost missed N’mor declare that Amorandii was found by B’jin thanks to his moping but tuned back in to the conversation in time and smiled with relief. He also suspected he’d be seeing the pair soon enough as well since Amorandii hated stopping by and not getting to see him—likely because he spoiled her in compliments and treats. At N’mor’s mentioning of his lack of an arm, R’nd glanced at Einin, having completely forgotten that she wouldn’t be used to the missing limb like he was but she currently didn’t seem phased which only added to his belief that she was a good person. That was one thing he’d give credit to N’mor for; the boy was strong to be able to come back from such an injury, continue living the life he wanted, and even joke about it. He was also proud of T’ryn for being such a loyal friend and helping N’mor through it all and staying friends.
But then N’mor had to ruin that moment of admiration by judging why he Searched the girl when there wasn’t a gold egg in the current clutch and then continue to insult female chromatic riders. “I’m sure Indivara would love to have a conversation with you in regards to that matter, N’mor,” R’nd tossed out once the bronzerider had finished speaking and before Einin could do anything. Indivara was practically a little sister to him and he was proud to call her a fellow bluerider. She proved daily she deserved her rank, not only because Venseth had chosen her and the dragon was never wrong, but because of how hard she worked on her dream of being a Weyrlingmaster.
Speaking of dragons never being wrong, “just because there isn’t a gold egg doesn’t mean Ayyonth isn’t going to tell me to ignore her for now and come back next time. He thought she was worthy of a dragon and I happen to agree. I think Einin would be a great goldrider but if she hopes for green or even blue, I’ll support her in that as well.” R’nd smiled at Einin, sincerity overflowing from him. He knew he was one of the rare men that didn’t look down upon women and encouraged them to follow their dreams. Of course he did still hope for her to Impress to gold as it’d be an easier life for her than that of a greenrider but he’d still support her no matter what and it wasn’t just because he and Ayyonth were responsible for bringing a sweet girl into the Weyr life. R’nd just genuinely liked people and got good vibes from Einin.
