Valerian was, as usual, in the middle. For the most part he was generally content with being neutral or indifferent about everything that came his way and forming a stance on something without emotions clouding his decision but then there were the rare moments where he wished he was different. If he were ruled by emotions or had a far more fiery soul than perhaps he would want to do more than sigh at the bickering, call them both selfish brats, and leave to find food for his rumbling stomach. As it was, he gave into the urge to sigh but substituted the rest with a hand running through his hair, massaging at his scalp while green eyes took in Talian and then Erisi. He had no idea how deep their friendship was and couldn't say if they were more than just friends but Valerian could see the pain they were both in because of actions and words.
Normally he wouldn't care if intervening was expected or wanted as he would say what he wanted, when he wanted, and Valerian didn't see a problem with that trait. Now, however, he was struck with an urge to meander over to the window and inspect the going-ons out there and give his friends some privacy while still staying close enough in case they needed him for whatever reason. Unfortunately for them, while he had no problem with fading into the background and observing the situation and people, Valerian felt compelled to add his two cents yet again and play counselor, which would have made his masters proud for finally attempting to be diplomatic.
He couldn't fathom how deeply hurt Erisi was but given what he had felt during Talian's recount, Valerian imagined he could multiply that by twenty and have a better concept of his friend's pain. He also had a feeling that anything he said would upset Erisi further. "I already stopped you once so if you want to walk out now and end your friendship with Talian because you can't handle an emotion deeper than lust or euphoric bliss, then you can go. But you know what, this is new to me as well and a little strange but it happened and we need to deal with it. Talian learned he wants to live partly because of us, because of you, I learned I can be stirred to interesting emotions and long pep talks because of you both, and you learned you finally opened up enough to be hurt by people you count as friends. From what I hear, that's a real friendship."
