Overall, the Hatching went rather well and R’nd found himself smiling for the vast majority of it. Of course there were a few tense moments when the dragonets clashed or got a bit too rowdy near a Candidate but he was pleased with how smooth it all went and couldn’t wait to go congratulate everyone afterwards since most were new friends he had recently made.
Unfortunately the Hatching ended on a bit of a low note when the bronze dragonet couldn’t find the boy meant for him and vanished between. R’nd bowed his head in a moment of silence for the poor creature and Ayyonth lent his voice to Mizeath in a keel of mourning. It was always hard to watch it happen and R’nd didn’t think it’d ever get any easier but at least a young boy hadn’t bonded and gone with the dragonet or had to suffer through dealing with the loss of his bonded. Now that the North was open to them once more, some of the dragonless riders that managed to survive were sharing stories and it broke R’nd’s heart over and over.
This is a day of celebrating, not for mourning and getting lost in your thoughts. Ayyonth nudged gently after the brief moment of mourning past and R’nd nodded, brightening up once more as he watched the newly Impressed feed and clean up their lifemates. You’re right, and I have people to congratulate! R’nd parted from the crowd still milling about and headed over to add his voice to the cheers and praise being passed around before coming up to the two goldriders, quickly jumping in when an opening presented itself with Rell chittering excitedly around his head.
“Congratulations, Vaeyla!” R’nd gave her a quick hug, not wanting to upset the little gold with too much contact, and smiled at the new pair, “I never doubted for a moment that this day would come for you. I will likely help out in some of your classes but hopefully we can chat some more before that. I don’t want to take up too much of your time right now.” He stole another hug with a laugh and then turned to Ameris, smile somehow even brighter.
“And you, my lady,” R’nd paused long enough to realize Ameris was carrying her son and changed tactics before he ended up twirling the pair of them around in his happy embrace. Instead, he slid an arm around her waist and kissed her cheek, voice lowering as he explained, “congratulations on an excellent Hatching and thank you for such a wonderful gift on this day.”
R’nd detangled himself from Ameris and bowed to the goldriders, “now, if you’ll excuse me, ladies, I’ll leave you to your celebrations.” As he walked away, still beaming, Ayyonth reached out to Mizeath to cautiously explain his rider’s odd antics without exactly spilling the beans either.Today is a special day to R’nd and not even B’jin knows about it. He gave your rider quite a gift as well with that little tidbit he let slip out in his excitement.
