B’jin just barely refrained from clapping his hands when N’del agreed to test out his cooking. Had he been someone more exuberant and confident, B’jin probably would have kissed the man. As he wasn’t, he just drowned his fellow greenrider in a glowing smile of sunlight proportions and swayed a little where he stood, swinging his weight to and fro before frowning suddenly and heavily; the cloud that blocked the sun from view.
“Oh.” B’jin pursed his lips, thinking about where they could go – B’jin had pointedly been avoiding doing anything remotely cooking-like in the room he usually shared with R’nd, and they couldn’t exactly just flounce off to use D’hys’ little kitchen area. B’jin was pretty sure the bluerider in question wouldn’t be very appreciative of that, and B’jin wasn’t particularly interested in serving the bluerider up his greenrider friends for dessert! The bluerider might mind his manners around B’jin (Faranth knew why) but B’jin wasn’t so delusional as to think that quality would expand to include random friends.
So where to go? When N’del answered the unasked question with the offer of his room, B’jin again flashed his friend a blinding smile of pure delight. “Can we? That would be fantastic!” With his brilliant smile still in place, B’jin promised to meet N’del at his room, and quickly made a dash in the opposite direction; he had not brought the things he had prepared in case the other said they were not interested. With interest and agreement established, B’jin made a bit of a mad dash through the Weyr (something that was only ever seen when Larrikith was flying and a tail of blueriders were on his heels).
Retrieving the food, B’jin was quickly back at N’del’s room, and only knocked once before letting himself in. He had been sure he had seen R’nd eyeing him oddly at one point and B’jin really did not want the bluerider’s curiosity or worry to spoil the surprise! He did not think R’nd would figure out where he had gone; and even if R’nd did knock and come in, B’jin could hide under the bed and N’del could offer R’nd one of the treats he had brought! The greenrider was grinning again as he set the little items out on the table.
Three little cupcakes were in the middle – a chocolate, with chocolate frosting; a vanilla with vanilla frosting; and one with redfruit in it that was more along the lines of a muffin. There was a little bowl of mixed fruit salad that, really, B’jin had had less of a hand in ‘cooking’ and more in ‘finding things to cut up’. The last was several strips of Wherry that had been carefully grilled in an herb and spices mix that D’hys had helped B’jin create.
The greenrider stood back and waited patiently.
