He was edgy. Not the sort of edgy that came from fear, or nerves, but the edgy that came from a near constant annoyance. Okalinath's latest clutch was due to hatch and Firah was not looking forward to spending a numerous amount of hours in a muggy cavern watching Dragons hatch and not getting picked. Not that he wanted to be picked mind you, but still, being passed over for anything never produced a proud emotion in him. Often he was relieved that the hatchlings decided to pick people other than himself, most of them wanted to be there and would excel at being a Rider, while he on the other hand would probably fuck the whole thing up and end up dying in some strange and inconceivable way. That was unfortunately an apt description of his type of luck for he was only ever on the positive receiving end when it came to what he did best. Surely, with his luck he'd Impress a Bronze if he Impressed at all. Firah shuddered at the thought. Impressing a Bronze would be his worst nightmare come true. He did not want any of the responsibility that came with Impressing one or the mere fact of notability he'd receive by simply existing as a Bronzerider.
The russet and white colored blob of fur that was sleeping in his lap stirred, drawing Firah's attention from his inner thoughts to the awakening creature. Using the ends of his fingers to give the canine a good itch on the back of it's neck, the Beastcrafter couldn't help but smile. It had been a long few months but he'd finally gotten Kymi trained in both hunting and herding. She'd proven herself to be adaptable to either environment and seemed to be content with the work he'd been putting her through, she even seemed to enjoy or at least he thought she did. Usually a wagging tail meant Kymi was a happy pup. Today was their day off and they had little to do in the way of entertainment, so a trip down to the gather grounds to nap and play had been the best idea Firah was able to come up with.
As the canine untangled herself from his legs he rummaged around the sack he'd brought, quickly finding the sand packed leather ball he'd been looking for. The appearance of the ball was greeted with a yip from Kymi, it was obvious that she was in a mood to play after her nap. Sitting up a bit more straight, Firah retracted his arm then threw the ball, watching it as it arched away from him with a small dog in pursuit. While the Weyr had one or two canines he'd trained for them as far as using as his own companions, Kymi was by far his favorite. Grimacing as the canine nearly missed plowing into another person, the Beastcrafter put his hand up in an apologetic manner.
