A ‘maybe’ was better than a ‘no’ even if Ryvian knew they kind of meant the same thing with Indivara. Still, he’d take it and properly use any openings for further flirting when they came up. It was one of the best ways to trick them both into believing he wasn’t shattering slowly on the inside. With a deep breath, he continued being a good boy and dunked under the water to rinse away the soap sand. There wasn’t anything for Indivara to worry about with him and the water. Ryvian had several times in the past swallowed water the wrong way while playing around in the lake and hadn’t enjoyed that sensation too much. Drowning did not appeal to the man in the least! He wasn’t that depressed to begin with. Life was all sorts of wrong right then and he wasn’t sure what to do with himself now, but Ryvian hadn’t given up entirely. Besides, he’d miss out on the sweet gestures Indivara was giving him like brushing his hair from his face when he resurfaced. Life sucked but it wasn’t over and even his devastated state could figure that out.
“Yeah, but that was different,” Indivara’s mother would have probably thanked him for knocking up her wild child daughter but getting clothes wet or potentially ruined? He’d be in trouble. His mother had been like that anyway. They only had so many clothes with them in exile and it carried over into the time she had at Katila before dying. Maybe that was why he didn’t take to wearing too many articles of clothing at one time; less to ruin by accident. Ryvian liked the theory and smiled softly to himself as he remembered his mom. He tried not to think about their parents that often since he knew it also made Nyvian sad but sometimes a memory came back and he couldn’t help it.
With an undignified shriek caused from an attack to his side, Ryvian reacted by elbowing the cause on instinct borne of self preservation. If that wasn’t a sign he was still fine on some level, Ryvian didn’t know what else was needed! He was suddenly being hit in the back by what he assumed after a moment was Indivara’s face as she held onto him and Ryvian was completely confused by everything and held perfectly still. He’d let Indivara move first before he hurt her any further, since her own pained noise following his elbow connecting to something finally made sense.
Ryvian continued to stand still, staring at the wall as he thought over his apology before finally saying it. “I’m ticklish and you startled me… it was a reflex. I’m sorry, Indivara,” he didn’t want to risk using his nickname for her in case it made her angrier. He’d already lost Nyvian that day, he didn’t want to lose a friend as well. “And you’re not stupid. I caused it all if you really think about it and you also know there’s clothes down the hall. I didn’t.”
He slowly turned, not wanting to hit her again by accident, to look at Indivara. A frown appeared at exactly how wet she had gotten but he didn’t say anything. A smile managed to appear when he seemed to have caught her off guard likely from turning around and it only grew into a grin when Indivara just shrugged it off and started washing his chest. The comment didn’t need to be made when they both knew already she was turning that ‘maybe’ of earlier into a ‘yes’. Ryvian wasn’t foolish enough to believe it’d be a full rub down like he was hoping for but her kindness was at least appreciated.
