Now that was an unexpected reaction. V’ler was waiting for a freak out to come over R’nd being the one to write something, and not just anything, but words stating he wanted to know his lover ‘inside out’. Why was B’jin worrying over it being an assignment? Did he think R’nd had been purposely tasked with writing about B’jin? That would have been amusing and V’ler doubted R’nd would have done it. The bluerider probably thought he was being sneaky by writing what he did without any true prompts being about B’jin.
“Oh, unknot your knickers, B’jin. R’nd has been studying with me for several months. It started with renewing his writing and reading skills because, from what I can gather, he was embarrassed of them and worried about what you, an essentially Master Harper would think of him or how your reputation would decrease near him.” That had been an interesting conversation. R’nd was so good with his words most of the time but he had been shy and hesitant about asking for help with his basic skills. V’ler wasn’t fond of teaching and did his best to avoid it at Katila but he agreed to help out R’nd since the bluerider was a decent man and a friend through B’jin.
“Since he already had a good foundation and only needed refreshing after so long of not needing it, we moved on to creative writing. For this assignment, I told him to write about something or someone important to him.” It didn’t have to be a poem, it could have been a story. V’ler actually expected it to be about his family back in the North, Ayyonth, or even Benden but had been surprised to see R’nd expressed a desire to learn more about someone that was obviously B’jin.
Whether the greenrider picked up on that obvious fact was doubtful given the way he had pushed the papers aside quickly after learning the author. “He wrote it about you, B’jin.” When in doubt, just blurt it out.
R’nd approaches now. He’ll be there in a few minutes.
“He’s on his way over for a lesson now as luck would have it.” Or evil mastermind planning, anyway.
