Valerian sighed as he waited for D'ren to speak to them and fiddled with the spoon on the table in front of him to keep him occupied. He had planned on skipping the announcement, figuring it wouldn't be anything major or anything that would affect him directly but Allendris had apparently decided to be a good boy and show up, dragging him along for the ride. He didn't have to agree and it wasn't like the taller man would have tried to literally drag him since that would be improper and go against the way Allendris carried himself but their strange little friendship had him shrugging and following along. Maybe, he soothed his boredom, it was just to make sure he didn't miss a chance to get a rise out of the glass-smith.
When the weyrleader finally stepped up to share his latest scheme, Valerian wasn't sure what to think of it. All around him people were murmuring in agreement or grumping about how barbaric it was to deny women the chance to Stand and encourage them to reproduce. As he watched a dark-skinned woman that seemed sort of familiar to the point where he was sure he was supposed to know her in some way, Valerian tried to work out his thoughts. He tried to keep an open mind on all things as following the prototype and just being the next one out of the mould wasn't fun, creative, or any way to earn your own identity so in that regard, he was fine with women being allowed to ride the fighting dragons and join in on the sexual escapades so many of the riders went through regularly and let them be in charge of their own bodies when it came time to choose to have kids or not. But he could see the merits in forbiding the women to Impress as well and asking them to take up the large responsibility of helping to enhance a population and carry on some mighty bloodlines. It was a puzzling situation that would have the Weyr debating the final verdict for quite a while to come and Valerian found himself giving a bit of respect to D'ren for deciding as he did and holding his ground against the incoming complaints.
But even with the confusion as everyone worked out their stance and the obvious pleaing for a change in the plan from the woman he still couldn't place, Valerian was already growing bored. He wasn't one to encourage or cheer on violence but this sort of announcement should have enraged a few people and moved them to raising their fists. Yes, a brawl was needed to liven things up a bit though it had the potential to leave him with a bruise or two and Valerian liked living as pain free as he could manage.
Another glance around the crowd had him noticing Erisi was missing. Maybe he'd go back to the Candidates' barracks and fill the guy in on what had gone on that evening. Valerian gave a small nudge of shoulder to shoulder to gain Allendris' attention since the man seemed deep in his own thoughts on the announcement, "I put in my appearance and heard enough to know where I stand and that D'ren won't budge from where he's placed himself so I'm out of here. You coming?"
