It was a delicate situation. Jada could completely agree with that sentiment! There was so much more to this than she'd even dreamed. "What about those children?" she asked at last, choosing to focus on that instead of on more difficult matters to contemplate. "Mothers who don't want them except for a chance at a dragon? Obviously if they don't Impress they'll have someone to raise them, since they'll stay with their mother, but what if the mother Impresses?" Jada didn't expect them to have a nanny plan- those women would surely just have to suck it up if they birthed and failed to Impress. Narrow-minded, certainly, but that was just the way it was done. "It's hard keeping up with a weyrling, I can't imagine having a child too." Had Dragonriders done it all the time? Surely not! (If so, she needed tips. She could barely put her boots on the right feet some mornings!)
Jada should also have paid attention in Dragonriders 101. Krypth would fix that when she found out.
"And what about the women who start to get old?" then she winced, realizing how that sounded. "I mean, dragons prefer a certain physical age, right? Will that be taken into consideration? Nirinath's only risen twice. BGy the time the next clutch comes, some of these women will be almost too old. It could be their last chance." Way to forget her own dragon was a gold too. Luckily, D'ren reminded her by commenting on Krypth's future babies. Oh. Oh dear. Tsuen had spent months tied to the Sands. Luckily in the scheme of things it wasn't much, but it was something. And with Clutches came Flights, and- sex. Jada blanched again, and instead focused on his words.
"I don't like politics." she decided, almost sullenly. "Someone is going to end up mad, and you won't be around to protect the Weyrwomen- or myself- forever." it probably came out harsher than she would have liked. "I've never been one for making decisions like this, sir. I could never decide what you and Tsuen have decided. Ask anyone, it's probably gotten around that I wiffle and waffle around so much worrying about one thing or another that nothing gets done. Do..."
Jada took a deep breath, sinking lower into her seat and shaking her head in reply to D'ren's polite question. "Do dragons make mistakes? What if Krypth did want Indivara, and just got confused because Indi was hurt, and I was there, and...? She'd be better suited for this than me." Not because of any meanness in the girl, but because of a firmness that butter-soft Jada didn't share. Or didn't think she did.
