CURRENCY
General Details
The Pernese use a currency known as ‘Marks’. While in the books the Mark is broken down into fractions, we will be dealing with nothing smaller than a Half Mark, and no bigger than a 100 Mark. Marks come in the following coins:
Marks are a single coin carved from wood – a precious commodity in Pernese society – with stamps on each side. One side of the coin features the mark of the Hall that produced the coin, while the other side indicates the value. Coins are all the same size, a solid 4.5cm across (1.8 inch), fitting neatly into the palm of most women.
The worth of the Mark is controlled by the political circle – major Lord Holders, the CraftMaster of each Hall, and the current Weyrleaders. Every five years, the value of the coins is re-determined, and adjusted accordingly.
