Age Requriements for the Craft Hall ranks |
Rank Assignments – Male
Jr. Apprentice: Ages 12+, very rarely are younger children accepted. Sr. Apprentice: Ages 14+, very rarely are young children ‘tapped’. Jr. Journeyman: Ages 18+, very rarely will a younger child be tapped, but never before the age of 16, as they are not considered adults by Pernese standard until sixteen. Sr. Journeyman: Ages 28+, never any younger. Sr. Journeyman is generally a rank designated to prove a minimum of ten years dedication to a Craft. Honorary Master: Ages 18+, never any younger. This rank is only given to the exceptionally talented individuals, and it is very rarely given out regardless. Mastery: Ages 35+, never any younger. A Master is very often a teacher at a Craft Hall. CraftMaster: Ages 35+, never any younger. The CraftMaster is responsible for everything relating to their craft. Rank Assignments – Female
Jr. Apprentice: Ages 16+, very rarely are younger women taken in. Almost all examples of women being apprenticed are conditions that the father of her husband, or future husband, have required as part of a marriage contract. Unattractive daughters of Holders or those with the money to spend are often shuffled into feminine craft in the hope of making her more appealing to a potential husband. Sr. Apprentice: Ages 20+, very rarely will a younger woman be tapped. Senior Apprenticeship is usually considered more than enough education to comply with marriage requirements or general education. Women over the age of twenty that aren’t married are few and far between, and as a result their involvement in further education is also lacking. Most women over the age of twenty have been married for up to five years already, and have at least one child. Jr. Journeyman: Ages 25+, very rarely does a woman advance to this rank; such women are generally considered old and unwanted by prospective husbands; as a result, at times becoming a Journeywoman is considered their only option left in life. A female Journeyman will find she has to work ten times as hard as her male counterparts to make her mark on the Craft, and will often be ‘sent home’ from assignments by Holders that are insulted by receiving a female at their Hold. These women are clearly considered lepers and are generally avoided, even by other women. Since the return of the dragonriders, they will probably find most of their assignments are to said Weyrs, where although not liberal, are at least more open minded than Hold assignments. Sr. Journeyman: Ages 30+, never any younger. Sr. Journeyman ranking women are almost impossible to find, and are generally considered mythical by the population at large. They are rarely beholden to Holds, but instead kept within the Halls where they are less likey to cause immediate offence. Since the return of the dragonriders, these Journeymen may find themselves assigned to a Weyr where they will hopefully not cause a scene and are less likely to set a ‘bad example’ to good Holder girls. Mastery: Ages 40+, never any younger. Practically impossible in almost every class, with very few and rare exceptions. There has never been a female CraftMaster in Pernese history. There is currently one female Master Crafter – Mistress Tawna of the Weavercraft Hall. |
