Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.
The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.
Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.
Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.
Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.
Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.
Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.
The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.
The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring
Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.
The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.
North: End Summer | South: End Winter
Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.
The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.
The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter
Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.
The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.
The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

Dark brown hair with naturally highlighted strands of chestnut complements his eyes though fingers running through the shaggy short locks out of annoyance keep the style looking like he perpetually rolled out of bed after a fitful night’s rest. The long fringe of his chosen style is often brushed to the sides in a slightly unbalanced parting but there are times rebellious strands fall into his eyes earning an annoyed flicking from fingers or they are left untouched while his attention is elsewhere—such as a performance or lazing in the shade daydreaming.
Valerian stands at a modest 5’10 but it doesn’t bother him that he is seen as vertically challenged compared to most men of his age.
Once considered to have a cute baby face when he was younger, Valerian’s features have sharpened and matured enough to give him the distinction of a young man with handsome features that can still be viewed as almost pretty when he isn’t scowling but allows himself a genuine smile. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen often. Full lips give the illusion of a pout but given his view on those he has to contend with daily, they are usually purposely set in such a manner. He has a small cleft in his chin that he likes to fancy makes him seem more mature and rugged; not adorable though the last time he saw his sisters they argued it only added to his charm.
Despite his long legs, he is well proportioned and does not appear gangly while his frame is lean with just enough muscle definition to avoid being called soft, thanks to years of dancing, which still draws wandering eyes when the right clothes are worn—or left on the floor beside him though he doesn’t make a habit of stripping or bed-hopping. Another feature that often draws the eye is his long fingers that move over harp, guitar, and even flute with a delicate ease. The way they dance and gently caress each instrument belies the fact that the earliest years of his young life were spent tending fields where blisters and cuts were a normal occurrence. Upon close inspection one would see the calloused tips of fingers caused more from years of learning to play and create instruments than anything else but Valerian works hard to avoid receiving cuts or any sort of damage to his hands as they are one of the two most important parts to being a Harper; the other, of course, being his tenor voice.
Even with all of his travelling and time spent at seaside holds, Valerian still only sports a light tan that easily fades once he’s settled into a Hall or Hold once again. This is due to his holding of classes indoors as he found children can focus slightly better when animals, bugs, or even the wind can’t distract them. His free time being spent in his own quarters or in the shade in a quiet field also helps keep the tan from darkening or lingering.

Composing Songs: While he enjoys all the musical aspects of the craft, writing his own songs, even about mundane routines or scenery for only his own enjoyment, is his favourite part and soothes him. He harbours a secret desire to share his work with someone he can trust.
Mocking People: Whether it be behind their backs or, more likely and more recently, to their face, Valerian has a fondness of pointing out flaws from appearance to personality regardless of who is current target is.
Loyalty: A hidden strength not many would know about or even believe until they were a recipient of is his dedication to a friend. While he is all for protecting number one, himself, if someone he considers a friend needs his help, he's likely to give it regardless of what is asked of him; though he would prefer if it was something quick and simple and will make sure you remember his helping hand whenever necessary. Of course he doesn’t really have friends, only colleagues and people he puts up with, but the values his mother and sisters instilled in him wouldn’t let him turn his back on someone that managed to break through his defences.
Creativity: Valerian has a way of turning those close to him into muses and writing songs or simple poems about them.
Cold Weather: There is something unpleasant about layering and still having a frozen nose. It also hinders his ability to play instruments as his dexterity is slowed.
Manual Labour: As a son of a farmer, Valerian knows all about working from sunrise to sunset and absolutely hates it. He goes out of his way to avoid such tasks ever since leaving to Harper Hall. Oddly, while it isn’t his favourite portion of the craft, making instruments doesn’t bother him and he doesn’t count it as a physical exertion.
Honesty: While it should be considered a strength, Valerian speaks the truth even when he shouldn’t and no matter how insulting it can be. It has resulted in the past to him getting beat up.
Views on Others: He is quick to take stock of other people to see what type of person they are. He doesn’t trust easily and will tune out your very existence if he finds you no more than a waste of time.
As napping is one of his favourite pastimes, Valerian has a habit of sneaking off to nap under a tree, preferably in a quiet and unpopular location so he won't be disturbed. In a way, this works out best for everyone as it means they avoid his scrutiny and keen observations.
However, it is because of his keen eyes and ability to quickly assess a person that his bluntness and antics are normally overlooked by his peers. Most also know his true desire lays in composition and having to deal with bratty farm kids as he makes his travels is punishment enough.
Despite his sharp tongue, Valerian doesn’t get angry and disappoints people when he doesn’t rise to their baiting in an attempt to rile him. Normally he is laidback, wanting nothing more than to lounge in the sun to pick idly at his guitar or to nap but given the way he was brought to the Weyr as a Stolen candidate plucked from his life without so much a by-your-leave, Valerian will take every chance he gets to remind anyone within hearing range that he came against his will. That isn’t to say he hates dragons or resents them due to some of the riders because what man alive didn’t fancy himself a candidate for a Hatching when they were a boy and what well trained Harper didn’t believe dragons were still alive and want to find one? It’s his determination to make sure no one gets close enough to him to truly know him that keeps any shred of enthusiasm or interest in anything other than his performance hidden away to the point where he comes off aloof and lacking in friends.
While he does enjoy the performance aspect of his craft and sometimes even the mingling with large crowds, Valerian detests archiving, holding lessons, and having to deal with children. At least with archiving he’s left alone and it’s generally quiet.
Thus far he has shown no interest in a relationship despite a few brave women over the years trying to earn his affections. Valerian simply isn’t interested in sharing his time or personal space with another nor does he see the need to marry when he sees enough of children as it is and has no desire to have his own. Secretly, however, he will concede that there is a chance this outlook on romance is because he has yet to find the one special person that makes his heart beat a little faster and breathing come a bit more erratically. But he is most certainly not actively looking for a partner.

Pale blue Quill is an absolute sweetheart. He's often hanging around V'ler, especially as he works at his desk. Quill is fascinated with watching V'ler play the guitar or compose, living up to his name.
Almost identical in colouring to his clutch brother, Vex is the opposite in personality. He loves V'ler and Indivara but usually hisses at anyone else that comes too close.
708-711 & 1-4: His mother and sisters take turns tending to him between their own daily tasks on the farm.
713-715 & 6-8: Begins lessons in both reading and writing as well as the farmcraft all taught by family members.
717 & 10: A hate of rising so early to work in the fields grows while an interest in what the Harper sings and discusses matures.
718 & 11: One day he has enough and announces he wants to go to Harper Hall to train and live after enjoying time with a Journeyman Harper that lodged with them for several days.
719-722 & 12-15: Studies at Harper Hall as an Apprentice, learning all areas of the craft to find the best suited area. Has some troubles maintaining the smile and suck-up attitude needed
722-724 & 15-17: Wonders if he’s in over his head with how much responsibility Harpers have but watching a group of Journeymen practice together one night revives his love of singing and performing and decides the other aspects can be tolerated a little longer to achieve what he desires.
725 & 18: Finally becomes a Junior Journeyman and continues to dabble in various areas of the craft but, at his Master’s insistence, spends the most time on the ways of teaching.
726-728 & 19-21: Valerian is sent to High Reaches Hold and the surrounding smaller holds to provide essential teachings. He partially believes it is a punishment for running his mouth one too many times about his peers but knows he fooled his masters too well and they believe he enjoys teaching.
728 & 21: Valerian is recalled and given the option to travel or select a Hold looking for a Harper. He chooses to go to Southern Boll having had enough of the northern climates.
729-730 & 22-23: Remains at the Hold until the wanderlust kicks in again. Begs his leave near the end of the turn and returns to Harper Hall.
731 & 24: Arrives at Katila Weyr as a Stolen candidate and adapts rather quickly. He Impresses blue Veeth at the World Above Hatching a few months later and focuses on his weyrling classes and trying not to lose touch with his new friends.
732 & 25: Continues with classes and now has the added bonus of adjusting to flights. During Rilaleeyth’s flight, Valerian ends up grabbing his friend Talian during flightlust. It strains their friendship and Valerian is still coming to terms with what he did.
733 & 26: Graduation! Becomes the last class to receive his honorific at grad and is now known as V’ler. During a green flight that he lost early in the turn, he ends up in bed with Indivara and they have a daughter at the end of the turn that neither end up wanting to raise.
734 & 27: The landslide leaves him shaken and horrified at the deaths but it isn’t until later on when Jada dies in childbirth that the deaths start to brush even closer to him since Jada was a childhood friend from the Hall.
735 & 28: Finally decides to return to Harper Hall to both show the records he has been keeping while in Katila and to let Jada's family know what happened to her. He feels an extreme amount of guilt and has trouble looking her brother in the eye as he feels he let them all down for not keeping her safe.
736 & 29: With new Weyrs now open, V'ler decides to stay at Telgar. He's annoyed that his muses have split off to different Weyrs but stays with B'jin and R'nd for both the inspiration and on some level he considers them friends.
738 & 31: Near the end of the year he takes a tumble and breaks his left hand. Since it is his writing hand, V’ler fears the worst and that he’ll never write again despite all assurances he’ll heal up fine.

The darker blotches come first, peppered along his sides and the underside of his tail. They deepen almost like bruises, eventually settling to a dark, stormy shade of midnight blue, though not all of them reach such a point. Some darken all the way, while others settle into a mid-range cerulean.
General Appearance: Veeth is a slight dragon, his features and form thin and delicate in appearance. He has a distinctly feminine build, more closely resembling his green sisters than his fellow blues, though he doesn't necessarily fly like one. He maintains the blue's greater staying power, though he trades a little bit of it for just a hint of additional speed. It's hardly a noticeable difference in most ways, since blues and greens are already cast from the same mold, though he does give him a slight edge against his brothers in speed.
Veeth's body is slender, though not particularly tapered or wispy. He has thin limbs and long wings, making him look thinner overall than he actually is. He is beautiful in flight, especially when the light catches his hide just right, making his glossy form shine like the northern lights.
While Veeth’s dramatic libido and persistent pursuit of greens might seem like masculine traits, overall this dragon has quite the feminine flair. In fact, his femininity is one of the features that sticks out the most about him. He conducts himself much like a woman, from his dainty movements to his penchant for gossip and emotional nature. He’s gentle, protective and prone to dramatic emotional responses. In many ways, he resembles one of the soft, effeminate male humans that befriend entire circles of young ladies as their token male counterpart.
Veeth’s as elegant in personality as he is in form, conducting himself with class and poise at all times. This blue pays extremely close attention to appearances. He is graceful and witty, with an impish but good spirited sense of humor and a knack of knowing what to say to make someone feel better about themselves. He’s something of an emotional enabler, perfectly willing to make someone else feel awesome as long as there are willing to do the same for him.
As a result, Veeth doesn’t handle rejection or hostility well. He is easily upset and even childish at times, throwing quiet tantrums when he doesn’t get his way and behaving sullen or dramatically passive-aggressive to those who have upset him. He can also be fickle and fussy at times, clearly expecting to be spoiled and have praise lavished upon him.
Socially, Veeth is a heavy-hitter. He dives eagerly into scandalous conversations and enjoys being the center of attention, something that comes easily to him since he’s so difficult to dislike. Veeth’s knack for saying the right things to people and generally making them feel good about themselves usually makes him quite a hit, though sometimes his more cynical peers call him out on it. He’s also skilled at wordplay and gossip; if it happened in the Weyr, Veeth knows about it.
So why bond to a quiet, indifferent young man like Valerian? Veeth needs stability and constant reassurance in his life. As much as he loves to comfort ‘damaged goods’, being bonded to such a person would be torment for the blue. He loves beauty and mystery, and ultimately, he needs the sort of grounding force that Valerian can provide.
Veeth also has much to offer the young harper. Valerian is a private young man who shares his secrets and feelings with few. He may try to keep others from truly knowing him, but he’ll have no such luxury with Veeth in his life. However, Veeth’s empathetic and kind nature assures that he will never betray his rider. He will be one of the privileged few to truly know Valerian, while the harper can take comfort in the fact that his dragon will never judge, only love.
Similarly, Veeth is perhaps overly-interested in his rider's sexual exploits. He pays close attention to Valerian's interests and liaisons, often openly encouraging Valerian to take part in any opportunity that arises. After all, more sex is always good, right? Right.
Veeth is also quite mischievous. He enjoys teasing others and playing all manner of pranks, though these are limited to what a dragon can physically do. He gossips like a female and enjoys making trouble and playing tricks on people, though he does these things just as much to amuse Valerian as for his own amusement. However, he does have limits. He will never behave cruelly towards someone he knows is hurting or feels is too vulnerable to be teased, and may occasionally caution his rider to do the same.
Veeth is also quite fond of Erisi. Subconsciously, the little blue must have felt how badly Erisi needed his love when the young man touched his eggshell. Of course, Veeth found his true calling in a different bonded, someone he was more suited to being permanently tied to, but Veeth's fondness for Erisi persists nonetheless. This caring attitude extends to anyone else who he feel simply needs the affection. Everyone deserves to be loved, and if they aren't, well...they are now.
Veeth loves beauty and admires it at every given opportunity. Therefore, he is utterly in love with Valerian's poetic side. If Valerian's creativity was as tangible substance, Veeth would collect it in a pile and roll around in it. The blue absolutely loves it and encourages it every opportunity. How he wishes he could produce such beauty! The greens would love him even more then!
Dislikes: Veeth dislikes males (human or dragon) who are so insecure with their masculinity that they make whers out of themselves. Veeth considers himself a fine example of a successful male, outgoing and quite the lady-killer, and he never feels the need to prove his masculinity to anyone! Veeth contends that a real man needn’t fear a bit of…womanliness.
He also dislikes females who think they're too good for him. That simply isn't true! He tends to take this as a personal challenge and do what he can to land them in a flight. Then again, he would be trying to do that anyhow...
Veeth also finds it hard to stomach outwardly cruel people. They leave a bad taste in his mouth, because after all, isn't life about love? He doesn't outwardly snub the rude creatures he meets, he just tends to ignore them, though he will occasionally stick up for someone who is being picked on.
Habits/Mannerisms: Veeth enjoys making blatantly sexual jokes and innuendos at people, especially people it will embarrass (as long as it won't actually upset them). He calls everyone 'love', be it a classmate, a human who needs comforting, or the Queen herself.
He speaks in a suave, intentionally-cultivated tone that he considers to be quite sexy.
He also tends to be melodramatic about just about everything. He is over-exuberant about the good and utterly dreary about the bad; a sharp contrast to his rider's indifference!
When angry or offended, he will often give the offender the ‘silent treatment’, refusing to speak to them and even angling his head and/or entire body away from them so they can’t see his face.
Strengths: Veeth is loving and loyal to a fault. He is utterly devoted to those that he cares for and has kind words for just about everyone else, except for those who make a sport out of cruelty. He's supportive and friendly, with great respect for boundaries. He is very sensitive to the feelings of others and is very easy to open up to. He’s also quite clever and insightful, with a strong sense of empathy and a lack of competitiveness (except during flights) that makes him nonthreatening and a comfort to be around. He is genuinely concerned with the well-being of others and is an excellent listener, though he may be a bit too quick to offer his own advice for their problems.
Weaknesses: Veeth is, unfortunately, a little bit thin-skinned. He doesn't handle aggression well and has a difficult time understanding those that initiate it. He's also a bit emotional and prone to investing himself too much in something right away, which leads to frequent disappointment. He can also be fickle and difficult to please, or even needlessly contrary when he’s upset. He is childish and passive aggressive when confronted, preferring such subversive tactics to direct confrontation. He also suffers from a constant need for approval. After all, he loves pretty much everyone...shouldn't they love him, too?
