Ista Isle is amused by the weaklings of Benden, but at least their heat is dry. Benden is muggy and riddled with heavy thunderstorms and downpours.

9.9 C to 18.4 C | 13.7 C to 24.5 C

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

Dark brown, short
Build:
Dancer-fit
General Description:
Eyes: Dark brown eyes appear more black than not, though sunlight and high spirits can brighten them to a more warm and welcoming shade, the young man’s serious nature tends to keep them dull. His wide set eyes are of medium size, shadowed by neat eyebrows that are not as bushy as usually seen on men. M’dox has long, thick lashes.

Hair: Thick silky strands of dark brown hair, once long enough to fall in waves down M’dox’s back are now kept trimmed neatly no longer than his ears, ever since Impression. The strands flop lightly across his forehead – but never in his eyes – and has that look that makes most people want to run their fingers through it.

Height: 5’7”

General Appearance: M’dox has a distinct face, broad of forehead and jaw, his chin is strong and well defined and the point draws attention inward to his eyes, nose and full lips, with high cheek bones. Tidy eyebrows overshadow his eyes, which are expressive and calculating. M’dox’s ears are on the slightly larger side, but given the overall of his face, fit neatly on each side and are often half hidden behind his hair. M’dox has a sly half smile that often forms on his lips.

M’dox has never been someone who oozed testosterone and he has grown to accept this and embrace it; though he keeps his hair short since Impression and his body has filled out, his overall appearance is far more that of a dancer than a bouncer. Reaching his final growth of five-foot-seven, with a willowy build he has finally grown into, M’dox has long limbs and wiry muscles. His arms are well muscled and strong from cleaning his dragon and the regularity with which he swims; his legs are toned from riding and his stomach is flat and his abs toned. His light, lithe form moves airily and gracefully.
General Dressing Style:
Growing up in a peasant village, with all the riches to match the setting, clothing was never something M’dox put much thought into during his early life. Indeed, beyond making sure they were clean and of a decent fit, there was little thought required. Everyone wore pretty much the same thing, with the obvious distinct changes between summer and winter clothing, and the requirements for work.

In all honesty, M’dox didn’t know clothing could come in so many colours and styles as he saw when the dragonriders first landed at his home, never mind the vast array he has come to own since he was Searched himself, and taken to New Katila. Since his eyes have been opened to the possibilities, M’dox took to experiemntinig with glee, often coming out of his room looking like J’ver had dressed him – vibrant colours, eye watering patterns, and lack of any colour coordination.

Since Impressing to Riquarth, M’dox has toned down his choices, and is most commonly seen in riding leathers, kept clean and well cared for, the leather supple and soft. Out of riding clothing, he prefers lazy day slacks and loose shirts that he can slouch around in comfortably.

Personality
Likes:
Bright Colors: Life as a peasant can be rather drab, and leaving his home gave M’dox the chance to see the vibrancy of life elsewhere, especially on the Southern Continent. He has a special fondness for bright shades and, where possible, he likes to find clothes and other fabric items (curtains, wallhangings, what have you) in the most eye-searing colors.
Flying: There are many benefits to flying in M’dox’s eyes. Beyond the sheer wonder of riding a dragon, it also allows him to spend time with just Riquarth, often away from the prying eyes of others.
Flowers: Flowers remind him of home and the good parts of his old life. They also often have the bright colors he so enjoys, and smell nice to boot.
Strengths:
Reading the Situation: M’dox is adept at understanding the underlying situation. He can almost always tell when someone he’s speaking to is uncomfortable or hiding something, which allows him to more successfully navigate interactions.
Adaptability: In addition to being able to read the situation, he is also capable of quickly adapting to it. Someone trying to hide something? M’dox can quickly come up with some story that supports whatever the other is saying, enhancing the lie. Last minute change of plans? M’dox is already in the mindset for the new activity.
Sensitivity: He cares a lot about other people, and likes everybody to be happy. M’dox is talented at judging people’s moods and what is bothering them, and then using that information to help them.
Dislikes:
Bullies: He got beat up rather a lot before he was Searched, and does not like those who pick on others. Not that he would ever confront a bully and risk getting hurt. Still, he would rather they stay very far away from him.
Cold Food: M’dox likes his meals to be heated, thank you very much. He’ll eat food that isn’t hot, but meals that are meant to be warm he refuses to eat cold.
Being in the Spotlight: There is nothing M’dox hates more than being the center of attention. People he barely knows paying attention to him? No thanks.
Flaws:
Fear: M’dox is constantly worried that people are going to take issue with him and beat him up - or worse. As a result, many of his choices are guided by his fear of others hurting or ridiculing him, making him seem very agreeable to those who can’t tell he’s terrified.
Unassertive: Due to his fear, M’dox just rolls with what life gives him as much as possible, taking what comes and not making much of an effort to change it. Searched? He didn’t think he would Impress a dragon, but apparently this was his life now. Even when he does have a strong opinion, he rarely voices it to others.
Manipulative: While it is generally for the purpose of avoiding conflict, M’dox uses plenty of manipulation. He knows how to make himself seem less interesting, how to make someone feel good about themselves so they forget about him, and other techniques of changing people’s actions to suit what he wants.
Habits & Mannerisms:
M’dox tends to make himself as small as possible, slumping his shoulders and not taking up too much space. Despite being 5’7” most people would swear he’s 5’5” or less.
General Personality:
M’dox struggles with his own identity, and carefully crafts who he appears to be so as to be unoffensive and unnoticeable to others. Where some people wish to be the center of attention, M’dox wants to be far, far away from it.

It is not that he dislikes attention; in fact, praise and love make him all warm and bubbly inside, he simply does not trust the attention to be positive. Too many people watching and waiting to pass judgement on him. As a result, his friends and romantic entanglements are few and far between. The amount of trust he needs to build between him and another person takes time, and not everyone is willing to put that time in - especially romantic partners. Riquarth is an exception to the rule, as M’dox implicitly loves his dragon and has from the beginning.

Having a brown dragon to back him up has allowed M’dox to become more confidant, though he has not lost all of his hang ups and hesitations just yet.

Important History:
710 & --:
Maddox's parent's married, his mother just fifteen, his father nineteen. Within months, young Mydreah was pregnant and the birth of their first son came in the early months of the following year, shortly after Mydreah's sixteenth birthday.
01.04.718 & Birth:
Maddox was born, the seventh child of his parents, and their sixth son, he was a welcome addition but nothing special in the overall function of the family. Healthy, albeit quiet, the infant was given the attention he needed but little more; a quiet child, Maddox seemed content not to cause issue and often simply watched the world around him with intent eyes.
720 AL & 2 Turns:
Maddox grew into a sturdy toddler, quiet and easily lost, he was often found curled up in corners of the stable with the bitches and their pups, or in the feed bucket of the old plough nag that would wuffle in welcome to anyone that walked by. The unassuming child had long hair that their seven year old daughter, Enfrai, was both jealous of and protective of and would not let the parents trim it down. His big sister's favourite play thing, Maddox was often found in petticoats and summer frocks, his hair pulled up in plaits, braids or ponytails.
721 AL & 3 Turns:
Mydreah's first successful pregnancy since the birth of Maddox gifted the family with another daughter, and suddenly Maddox found himself alone and without his big sister fawning over him. While a quiet and unassuming child, Maddox had become used to being the centre of his big sister's world and was unsure how to handle no longer being the most important to her. He took once more to wandering about untamed, spending much of his time under the tables in the kitchen, or sitting on the knee of one of the older women who would tell stories as they cooked.
722 AL & 4 Turns:
Disaster took the little village, with a nasty virus sweeping through the small population, it struck down young and old alike. Vicious in the symptoms, very few of those very old or very young survived when they were struck; Maddox found himself one of those who avoided the illness, but not so for his brothers Ordren, Reaford, Raddrym and their baby sister Mydrad. The family was devoured by grief.
724 AL & 6 Turns:
Old enough this time to understand the impending pregnancy from his mother, Maddox was quietly helpful and often found trotting along behind his sister Enfrai, who still took pains to keep his hair tidy and would occasionally put the child in dresses to play pranks on the kitchen women. When their mother was in labour, excitement bubbled up in the youth, only for it to come crashing down around him as the infant was born still. Once more, the family grieved, heartbroken by what should have lifted their spirits instead once more reminding them of the years prior. His parents agreed to embrace the children they had left, rather than risk more heartbreak attempting to bring fresh faces into their family. Besides, the woman was getting on and the constant childbearing was leaving its heavy mark upon her. Denforad had no desire to lose his wife as well as half his children.
726 AL & 8 Turns:
Deemed old enough to work basic chores, even if his slight build and lack of meat on his bones left many an old kitchen hand tuttering, Maddox found himself assisting the ladies at the hearth; fetching water or wood, washing dishes while standing on an upturned bucket with water and bubbles up to his elbows. The boy enjoyed the work, which left him alone with his wandering mind and his blank gaze to stare out over the windowsill and into the world beyond. Unfortunately, this turn was also when Maddox's girly hair and sweet, feminine face, tiny build and tendency to be in dresses thanks to his sister and the amused kitchen folk began to attract the notice of the other children around his age group.
727 AL & 9 Turns:
Wearing a pretty white frock his sister had picked out earlier that day, with daises in his hair and a basket on one elbow, he probably would have been left to take his flowers back to his mother, and the berries to the kitchen, but one of the older boys recognised the 'kitchen weirdo', and young Maddox had his first run in with a group of bullies. They left him battered, bruised and crying on the side of the road, his skirts ripped and his basket kicked to pieces. The flowers were trampled into the dirt and the berries had been stolen and gorged by the bullies, the left overs squished into Maddox's dark hair so the red juices that dripped down the side of his face looked like blood.

It was his father that found him, every bit a girl when he should have been a young man, and after making sure he wasn't truly hurt, hauled the child up by the scruff he had marched him over to the closest trough. While he roughly washed the boy down, Denforad hammered home how 'boy's don't cry like sissy girls' and to pull himself together. Disgruntled and disgusted, the man marched his wayward offspring home and promptly sat him on a bench, Maddox bursting into tears once more as the man strode back with a set of shears in hand and made quick work of the boy's waist length hair while both his wife and daughter looked on, horrified.
728 & 10 Turns:
In the following months Maddox was watched more closely by his father, who wanted to make sure the Incident never repeated itself. He made sure to clip Maddox's hair whenever it passed what the man deemed an 'appropriate' length for young men. It was decided Maddox was old enough to help his father and older brother with farm work, and he was tasked with feeding the smaller animals, as well as running messages from field to field, farm to farm. Unfortunately for him, despite his haircut, the bullies did not leave him alone, and it was not unusual for Maddox to deliver a message with a split lip.
730 & 12 Turns: Maddox continued to assist his father, graduating to harder jobs over time. He was still the favorite punching bag of the other boys, but he had learned how to blend in over the past few years and was better at not provoking them, and did not receive nearly as many black eyes.
His second oldest brother, Denmyra, married the daughter of a Journeyman beastcrafter. Their first daughter was born four months later. Maddox loved his niece and spent as much time as he could get away with assisting his sister-in-law with her.
731 & 13 Turns: Enfrai got married to Donmic, one of the boys a few years older who had been one of Maddox's primary childhood tormentors. Though Donmic beat him up less, and Enfrai swore he had grown up, he was still rather snide and disapproving of Maddox. Though he loved his sister, he started spending less time with her in order to avoid Donmic.
732 & 14 Turns: The family had another wedding to celebrate, with the oldest son, Raddrea, marrying a harper. Denmyra's second child, another daughter, was born, and Enfrai had her first child, a son. Maddox started noticing girls paying attention to him and started to panic about how soon he would be expected to marry.
734 & 16 Turns: Searchriders came to the outlying farming area M’dox’s family called home. R’nd comes across Maddox while he is fixing a fencepost on the edge of the farm. He was brought to Katila to be a Candidate.
735 AL & 17 Turns: Impressed Riquarth.
738 AL & 20 Turns:
Month 10 - Meets T'bia of blue Jycenth while doing laundry
Month 12 - Is 'gifted' a firelizard egg by Indivara, which hatches into a the runtiest little green firelizard.
739 AL & 21 Turns: Starts a relationship with T'bia in month 6, though they first refer to themselves as dating in month 10, after Rhaedalyn refers to them as boyfriends and they go 'oh, right, yeah.'
740 AL & 22 Turns:

Weyrlinghood
A bit stocky and heavyset, his wings look rather big for him, but this is common for a Weyrling and no one thinks much of it.
Riquarth
Adulthood
Riquarth remains rather stocky, and unlike most Weyrlings who grow into their large, gangly wings, Riquarth never does. His wings just grow with him, remaining wildly out of proportion. It doesn't impact his ability to fly. He is light brown, with darker areas on the underside of his neck, his tail, and his wingtips. His nose and lower jaw are also darker brown, a bit as if he had just shoved his face in the mud.
Mindvoice
Deep and no-nonsense
Personality
Riquarth, like most dragons, has his rider as his number one priority. He is well suited to M’dox, with an easy confidence and an assurance in his own worth. He hopes M’dox will start to pick up these traits from him.

He is generally well-mannered and slow to anger, though he is quick to respond to slights or threats against his rider. Riquarth may seem lazy to some, but it is due more to his deliberateness and careful choice of words and actions than true laziness.
Quirks
Tends to smack the ground with his tail to emphasize his words. An example being an exchange such as We need to go now. where the ’now’ is punctuated by a tail slap to the ground or a nearby solid object. His judgement of an object’s durability is not always accurate.

Likes:
When M’dox stands up for himself: He loves when his rider prioritizes his own feelings and wellbeing. Riquarth tries to provide backup for M’dox wherever he can.
People/dragon watching: Riquarth loves watching others, learning how others interact and what they do. He has no nefarious plans for this information, just genuine curiosity.
Dirt: Riquarth loves rolling in the dirt, wallowing in mud, and generally getting himself filthy (as long as he gets a nice bath afterwards, of course).

Dislikes:
Anyone who hurts M’dox: He would eat the people who hurt his rider if he was allowed.
Late meals:Riquarth prefers to eat on a regular schedule whenever possible, and gets a bit testy if forced to eat at different times.
Drunk people: They are frankly a bother and hinderance to those who wish to get things done and be reasonable, he thinks.

Strengths:
Sturdiness: In addition to being physically sturdy, Riquarth is also mentally sturdy. He can withstand a lot of surprises, conflicting sets of information, or huge alterations to his understanding of the world, with ease.
Patient: Riquarth understands some things take time, even if he wishes they didn’t.
Loyal: Once Riquarth has decided he likes someone, he will do almost anything to help and support them (as long as it doesn’t hurt M’dox in any way).

Flaws:
Bullheaded: Riquarth is very set on things happening his way and is rather disagreeable when they do not. He gets a bit snippy with those who are blocking his desires.
Petty:Despite his general even temper, Riquarth takes great pleasure in causing minor inconveniences to those who bother him or M’dox.
Directness:Riquarth is perfectly happy to tell someone exactly what he thinks. This is sometimes positive, but sometimes gets him in trouble.
