Free [OPEN] - Mevrit - 08.Sep.12

Mevrit was not the most attractive young woman at the Weyr, and she didn't even particularly stand out in the crowd. She was small, with eyes too big for her face and hair that was rather lackluster. Even her dress was unremarkable, an ankle-length skirt and a long-sleeved knitted top. Her stomach was still just slightly round, even though she had her twins months ago. The weight had initially been shed easily, though now the same amount of work she did daily as she had before did little effect. Mevrit was too busy to really even notice - she supposed it was her own way of coping with the thought that she had abandoned the children she had decided to carry. Keeping her mind and body busy was a distraction, and she took to chores with such readiness that others found it off-putting.

Mevrit supposed that the guilt was natural, but she had already weighed the pros and cons of giving up her twins. She was never going to get anywhere in life if she was weighed down by two bundles of joy. When she held them, she had always felt awkward, always worried that one would slip out of her grasp. All the other women seemed to be able to tell what her children needed better than her as well. The Trader eventually came to the conclusion that some people just weren't meant to raise children, and she was one of them. She hadn't necessarily wanted kids - it just had happened, and one, let alone two, was too much for her to handle. Mevrit could do many things, but being a mother wasn't one of them.

Still, she had to wonder if she had tried hard enough. Usually, she put all of her effort into a task she wanted to accomplish, but she knew she had held back with the twins. Maybe it was because she hadn't wanted them, and felt unready for them. So, she held back, and now she felt slightly ashamed of the fact that she had.

The day's chores had been finished, but Mevrit had never been good at dealing with free time. Even now, she sat alone on a bench, fingering the sleeve of her shirt thoughtfully. The stitching on it was poor, something she should have noticed sooner. Mevrit had a fine eye for quality, but at Katila life was focused more on the essentials. What did it matter if a shirt was stitched poorly or was an ugly color, as long as it was wearable? It put a damper on Mevrit's usual evaluation of items. She wouldn't have worn this top if she had better clothes, but most of what she had owned was left back in the North.

It was a pity, she had a stunning grey top that at times made her actually look pretty. It would have been nice to be able to wear that today.

Did she miss home? It'd be ridiculous to think that she didn't, but as was Mevrit's nature, she had adapted, she had moved on. Katila wasn't really that bad. It had put a damper on her life's ambitions, but she could still make this work out somehow. She'd be even more ashamed of herself if she couldn't.

Re: Free [OPEN] - S'jin - 08.Sep.12

Seijin sat on a bench a short distance away from the lady. He brushes his bronze colored brown hair away from his jade colored eyes. His oval shaped face tilted to the side in thought as he looked  at a couple of pieces of leather with some new colors he had been  working on and tried  to decide which colors he wanted to color the next hides he acquired. He really wished that he could get someones opinion on the colors. He wasn't sure wither to go with the blues and greens or grey and browns. He muttered softly to himself and looked around the square when he noticed the lady sitting at a bench not to far off from him.

He rose quietly to his feet and walked over. " Pardon me Miss. " He said softly. He hoped that he wasn't intruding into her quite time but he did really want a option on the new colors he had created. "May I ask your opinion? That is if you don't mind. " He inquired softly. He blushed softly still holding the four tiny colored leather pieces in his hand nervously.

He was terribly shy. So him deciding to ask someone their opinion was something he didn't do very often specially since he had been stolen from his home and brought here to live. Here where his shyness it at its peek cause he doesn't know many of the people here even after being here for a while now. He still hasn't gotten to know many people keeping himself a bit at a distance but that maybe because he is afraid still to get close.  While he didn't have any trouble adjusting to his new life and  was never angry at being taken from his home. He still had trouble making friends and up until now he hadn't went to  someone out and spoke to them.

Re: Free [OPEN] - Mevrit - 08.Sep.12

Mevrit did not notice Seijin until he was making his way over to her to talk. It wasn't that she had been ignoring the presence that had been seated only a little ways from her just moments ago, but rather that she was far too engrossed in her own thoughts to pay attention to anyone. She certainly wasn't someone who would turn a person away, though, especially when they asked for her opinion on something she considered herself well versed on. The smile came to her face too easily as it was a well-rehearsed expression. A smile was all that took to put someone at ease and then buy a few minutes of their time.

"It depends on what you're using them for," Mevrit answered as she eyed the pieces of leather. Blue and green were visually more appealing to her, but in a practical place like Katila, no one had yet come to care for bright colors. "You should try and find a way to bring the blue and green out more. I wouldn't suggest using them on large pieces, either. Bright can be silly at times, and no one wants to be silly. Though, maybe the blue and greenriders would be partial to them." Seeing as she really had no idea what he was specifically wanting to hear out of her, Mevrit was bound to give her opinion on it all. It would probably be fine, if she knew how to tone down her criticism.

"Honestly, you're better off with the more natural colors. You'll get a greater range of interest, and appealing to the many instead of the few gives you a much better chance of turning a profit." Mevrit didn't quite realize how preachy she was coming off - she was just trying to give the young man a hand! "Again, the blue and green are perfectly fine in small quantities, but I wouldn't put too much stake in them. Up North I'm sure they'd do far better, but down here? Not a chance." Seijin had probably picked the wrong person to ask if he had wanted an easy choice or one that was more softly done. Mevrit had never seen the point in softening her words when it came to a matter of taste, and especially a matter of profit.

Seijin smiled back as Mevrit smiled at him. "Well I was thinking of using these colors on different leathers. I wanted to do some boots eventually in different colors to give some options. But I'm not sure how much colors to make and what kind is more sell able is probably something I really should think about as well. You seem to know a lot about  colors and the selling value of them. I guess I really lucked out when I asked your opinion.  " He chuckled softly " One thing I never though about was using the colored leather as decorative pieces in a outfit.  It is something to think about. "  He never noticed if she was being preachy cause he asked for her honest opinion and since she was giving it he was very grateful for her to share so much incite.

He sighed wishfully. " Yes I really miss being up north. My color skills were much more in demand there but here is nice as well. I'm not under anyone's shadow here not many that do what i do with colors. " Then he  though for a moment about everything and held the color pieces against each other to see if the colors would go with each other.  "Maybe if I use the grey with blue accents and the brown with green. " he mused softly and out-loud.

He looked over at Mevrit and smiled shyly. " I do thank you for all your suggestions. I'm glad you were able to help me with the questions that were weighing heavy on my mind. " He said politely and quietly. He couldn't remember if he had meet her before or not. There were many people that he did not know and some he didn't remember meeting but he tried to remember who was who. "My name is Seijin, May I inquire to what yours is, Miss?"
