Lumberjacking? - Ch'rov - 26.Jan.12

The term jack of all trades had rarely applied to people back in the north, but those of Katila weyr could easily be labeled that. He had done more things in the three years that he had been down here than he had ever imagined doing back in Tillek. Still, despite all of the work, he was happy here, happy in the way that he hadn't realized he was unhappy in before. There was just something about working for the good of everyone, about everyone working together towards a common goal, that just made the young man happy. These things included chores, even the ones that happened early in the morning.

On this particular morning, those assigned to the Lumberjacking section of the Building Wing, Echlerov, and Tiana, were out in the western forest. It was early, far too early for Echlerov's liking. He was not a morning person by any means, but when the days were as hot as they tended to be lately, there really wasn't much of a choice. You either went out when it was cooler, and got your work done then, or ended up doing it in the heat of the sun. And chopping down wood was always better done when it was cooler.

"So," he said, grinning brightly at the girl. "Any preference on where to start?" It wasn't really important, one tree was the same as the next, but he was more interested in if the girl had an opinion of her own. He hadn't spent much time with the other northerner, and was really looking forward to getting to know her. He was fairly sure that she was a healer, since he often saw her in the infirmary, but he wasn't making any assumtions. She could have other reasons for being in there, including his favorite. It was far easier to get out of doing things if you were already doing something else.
