744.08.08 | Fishy, Fishy, Fu— - V'ra - 07.Aug.23

Against her better judgement, Indivara had allowed Venseth to talk her into taking her daughters to the beach for something that the dragon seemed to feel would be a family trip. Indivara still wasn’t sure if the sound Val had made as she left on her dragon had been one of commitment to join them, or amusement at her impending doom. Most likely it was the latter, though the odds of Veeth talking him into joining them was, well, strong. It was, after all, Veeth.

Indivara turned her gaze to watch the two little girls dismount her dragon, amused despite herself. Varlea, at ten and a half (great Faranth ugh) was helping her younger sister, giggling. Obviously they were used to climbing all over Rhaedalyn’s golden monstrosity, because neither seemed at all perturbed by Venseth. Indivara shook her head; she knew they climbed all over Aradissicath – she’d even seen them actually climb all over Xyreith. Crazy children. Indivara was interrupted by the sound of Vadira, who was only five, lose her balance and land in the sand with a rather painful sound. She sniffed, and raised an eyebrow at her dragon as he nosed anxiously at the little girl. Honestly.

“Venseth,” Indivara said, rolling her eyes, and reaching the pair of girls as Varlea helped her sister up, brushing the sand off her. Indivara handed her daughter a bottle of water, smirking in amusement as the small minion of doom spilt most of it in the process of washing her mouth and eyes out. She spit the sandy water onto the ground, managing to drool on herself in the process. Indivara took the bottle of water back with a grimace.

“You obviously didn’t get any of my manners.” She smirked at the child, who pouted. Indivara rolled her eyes. “Bugger off into the water, then. Venseth will make sure you don’t drown.” She gave her dragon a meaningful look, but he just chirped and waited patiently for her to remove his riding straps so he could bound down the beach and splash into the water, probably making more progress towards drowning the girls than they would on their own. Indivara sighed, greatly put upon, and dropped down on her knees to find the fishing pole she’d attached, as well as the bag of bait. She hadn’t been fishing in a while, and while the children and the dragon would no doubt scare away most of the fish, at least she would have a reason to tell them to bugger off. Not that she needed a reason, of course, but Rhaedalyn would hear tales if she didn’t, and that woman could be scary in her own way.

Picking up her items, Indivara cast a glance towards her wayward offspring and dragon, watching as the girls scrambled up onto Venseth and then used his extended wing as some type of slide, squealing and laughing as they slipped down it, the dragon in question giving a flex or a flap or whatever occasionally that would send one girl or the other several feet into the air before she made it into the water once more with a splash. Honestly, Indivara didn’t even know why Venseth demanded she and Val bother with these playdates; they didn’t spend any time with the girls anyway, it was all Venseth and-or Veeth.

Shaking her head, Indivara looked for that rock she’d seen peeking out of the water earlier. It was a decent length out, she would no doubt need to swim to make it since Venseth was otherwise occupied, and the water was certainly deeper than she was tall by that point. Not that that was too much of an achievement. Indivara made her way to the tideline, and looked down at the water, then at the rock, and then over at her dragon. Venseth, she started, but was very rudely interrupted.

If you don’t swim over there, you will obviously die of heatstroke sitting on the rock waiting for your little fishies to eat the worms. Venseth said, his tone mocking and very clearly distracted by the girls using him as a climbing apparatus. You won’t dissolve, you know. You did have a bath last night, and remain whole today!

That was an entirely different situation. Bathwater is warm, and not salty.

This water is also warm. Just swim. Or don’t. Whatever strikes your fancy.

Indivara scowled nastily at her dragon as he lifted his head, and attention, to give her a toothy impression of a smile. Indivara flipped a rude gesture at the dragon, which just made him huff with amusement, the laughter rich inside her mind. Grumbling under her breath, Indivara began the process of stripping off most of her clothing; she’d never strip in public, far too modest about her scars, but she did undress down to her undergarments: undies and a loose sleeveless top, her breasts bound underneath because she was quite certain she was at least two pregnancies past the perky boob thing the younger riders had going. At least Casa wasn’t there; Indivara poked her tongue out, gagging dramatically at the thought, while Venseth snorted at her from where he was playing with the children responsible for at least half the stretchmarks on her arse and thighs, and the aforementioned not-perky boobs.

Shut your fucking mouth, Indivara warned, quite sure Val, if not both he and Veeth, would be learning of that particular thought and she wasn’t pleased by the idea. Faranth. She could quite imagine the sass that Val would spew given that kind of fodder. Ugh. Scrunching her nose up, and glaring once more at Venseth, Indivara began to swim over to the rock.

RE: 744.08.08 | Fishy, Fishy, Fu— - V'ler - 17.Aug.23

V'ler had absolutely no desire to go with V'ra and visit their spawn. Truthfully, he was just being lazy. He didn't mind the girls and he loved the warmth and sometimes even a swim. It was just a hassle to go out and he definitely still did not like going between if he didn't have to. But Veeth had Veethed him to near death and V'ler decided it was easier to give in to the pestering and even the mostly valid points in favour of going.

"I can't put the straps on if you keep dancing around," V'ler pointed out with a sigh before moving to hang the straps back on their hook. But how can I not dance? We're going to see the girls and going swimming! And it'll be so warm which will be nice for all of us before we move to High Reaches. Ayyonth and Larrikith said it's super cold there and I could have icicles for toes! Do you think that's possible? V'ler hoped not considering his own hatred of the cold, but V'ra didn't want to lose V'ia as an assistant and he said the muses in Telgar were getting a bit boring and predictable, so why not move as well?

After convincing Veeth their toes would be fine and wrangling the straps on him, V'ler grabbed his guitar and they were off. One of the many points flung at him by the adorable dragon was that he could play the new kid songs he had written a few months ago and had yet to share with the spawn. They were decent critics and V'ler was certain Varlea could make it into Harper Hall with her budding voice and ability to keep time to his songs if she so desired. He didn't think R'nya and Rhaedalyn would want the girl to leave the Weyr, however, and V'ler didn't fancy having that battle.

When they appeared above Ista and angled to the beach, V'ler allowed himself a brief moment to smile, eyes shut, and soak up the sun with the knowledge that they made it through another jump between. There was a brief moment of wondering if they should have moved to Igen or Ista, but he knew the constant heat would make them both cranky. Visits would have to do.

Veeth barely contained his excitement long enough to have his straps removed before bounding toward the water to join the girls and Venseth. Just watching his dragon play left him exhausted and he said as much as he called out a greeting to V'ra. "Don't drown, Vara. I'm too tired to pretend I'd save you."

He unrolled the blanket strapped to his pack and spread it out on the sand before making himself comfortable, guitar resting on his lap. He waved in greeting when the kids spotted him and then waved for them to keep playing as there wasn't a need to come drip on him just yet for a brief exchange of words before they inevitably ran back to the water and dragons. After a few minutes, the guitar was picked up and a song lazily strummed out. He didn't sing, just played whatever came into his head.
