RE: 743.09.19 | Blinded by the Light Hatching - Orgailian - 24.Sep.22

What a shocking twist—he was walking away solo yet again. What was somewhat shocking was how he didn’t quite care. Telagr’s Hatching that had happened on his birthday and saw Mylorah Impressing and taking some of her favourite men with her had gotten to him. That one had crushed his spirits more than any other had in the past. Maybe he was just numb to it all now because of how low he had hit with that one but there was also the possibility that he’d already mentally checked out of Ista and was excited for the move to Igen Weyr. Maybe the dragons knew he wouldn’t appreciate being tied down longer than he needed to be, especially with so many important people in his life having signed up for Igen as well.

Maybe he was destined to truly break the trend in the family and never Impress. He still had eight years to figure that one out but Orgailian wasn’t too keen on having to wait that long for a bit of knowledge. Maybe he’d give up Standing in two or three years. It was hard to say and he knew immediately after failing at a Hatching wasn’t the time to make such plans, even if he currently didn’t care that he was still free to go say hi to sexy Lords without being screamed at by a dragon. And he still had Zoremet to keep him company.

“Another Hatching for the books, another party for us to enjoy, and a Lord to greet. Not a bad day, I suppose.” He was also actually hungry for once. Standing around in the oppressive heat had a way of making his body function somewhat normally with needing sustenance and he pointed that out to his brother as well. If he needed to eat, he knew Zor would as well. “Come on, let’s go get the ‘there’s always next time’ speeches from obnoxious brothers out of the way first and then Brax.” He wouldn’t plan beyond that since it would depend on a lot on what the Lord’s plans were since most specially invited Holders didn’t usually get to stay for the wild celebration that night.

As he steered Zoremet towards the stands, Orgailian spotted Rh’us. Damn. That would be another afternoon well spent but he still didn’t want to encourage the bronzerider to focus on Zor. Besides, Ulliendis was grinning as he headed in that direction and he had a feeling they didn’t want to be near either of them right then. So annoying family it was.

RE: 743.09.19 | Blinded by the Light Hatching - Xendrin - 24.Sep.22

Xendrin held his breath when the brown circled the woman and then cheered when he saw the man that had Impressed him. Another good duo! He was still smiling over another friend finding his mate when it looked like another squabble would break out. He was again holding his breath but nothing more than a sad blue boy happened. Xendrin frowned as he watched the hatchling wander around until he found someone before walking off together. That was odd and he desperately wanted to go give that dragon a hug but he didn’t know the older man that well and figured that wouldn’t be appreciated. Still, he could try to squeeze in later on for some congratulations.

And then it was over. Xendrin looked around at who was left, taking in the general mood, and spotting a few Candidates that were crying. One was close to aging out and some were at their first Hatching and experiencing the joys of rejection. He’d try to steal Zory later so they could check in with the more sensitive ones but he’d first give them time alone or with their new friends while also giving his brother time to be dragged to wherever Orgailian was taking him. Oh, right. The family. Since R’nd was in the stands, Xendrin opted not to visit with his brothers just yet. They’d find each other at some point and he was thirsty so he made his way out of the area with the crowd.

RE: 743.09.19 | Blinded by the Light Hatching - Ulliendis - 24.Sep.22

Were dragons supposed to do that? A brown checking out a girl was a bit curious but Ulliendis knew she was linked to the boy that ended up Impressing the brown in some way, though he couldn’t remember if they were dating or siblings. He’d look into that fact later as a blue caught his eye. Again, was that normal? It looked like the two blues were going for the same boy and the slower one was left dejected and alone. Maybe the hatchling was just confused but there was a chance that two people could have a bond with a dragon. Were humans all ranked in the mind of a dragon as soon as they popped free? Blue boy couldn’t get his number one so he settled for his second choice? Touchings and Hatchings were constantly surprising him.

But he did make it through another one unscathed and Ulliendis appreciated that staying a steady constant as he sauntered through the crowd. It was also interesting to see who was upset over not Impressing and who just took it as an inconvenience in their day. Some of the latter were acting—and not that well—but he supposed he couldn’t blame them. He, however, truly didn’t mind he was still dragon-free.

He was grinning as he approached the stands and made his way up to where Rh’us was still sitting and scowling. “Woe is me and all that!” Ulliendis exclaimed dramatically, the back of his hand resting on his forehead to complete the proper effect. “A dragon didn’t want me but at least I still have you.” He straightened and flashed another grin. It was fun to play with Rh’us when the opportunities arose, which wasn’t always often. Ulliendis was wise enough to be serious when they were working, especially with vials of various less than pleasant substances.

But now wasn’t one of those times. “Anything you want to do while you’re here before you whisk me away? We can stay for the celebrations as well. Getting you laid might keep that scowl from permanently freezing on your face.”

RE: 743.09.19 | Blinded by the Light Hatching - K'tir - 24.Sep.22

Since his kids had started Standing, K’tir thought Hatchings were stressful but he didn’t know the half of it. Now that Ghaeth was the sire for a clutch, he had the extra weight on his shoulders of the maulings, stands Impressions, and duds on top of worrying for his son’s safety. It had been a wild ride from start to finish as hatchlings attacked one another and a boy was injured and a girl drew the eye of a brown. But the injuries were light for what normally happened and no other surprises or drama happened so he felt it was a successful Hatching. It was a shame Kajiran didn’t Impress but he wasn’t disappointed. His son likely would be but they would talk about that later on. K’tir was proud of the boy and was making damned certain he didn’t give Kajiran any extra pressure about Impressing or caring about the colour.

K’tir smiled as Ojassa summarised the good points. “We should all be proud. That went well and with a strong showing of colours.” Three browns! Ghaeth sat proudly beside Quayleth and finally gave a triumphant bellow that helped signal the end of the event. Other dragons echoed the call which only made Ghaeth even happier and K’tir laughed as he patted his boy’s side. “A day to remember for sure.” Even with the confidence boost, they both knew how unlikely it was to ever win a gold Flight again so they were savouring everything about the experience over the last several months.

They had also befriended the gold pair, which K’tir hadn’t quite expected. Sure, Ghaeth was a sweet boy and would likely win over Quayleth but he hadn’t been so sure about himself with Ojassa but it was working out well. The fact that it was typically a lot of sex and not much in the way of deep conversations didn’t bother him. They enjoyed each other physically and found some common interests to discuss outside of that and he was happy with where they were. “Can we escort you ladies off the Sands? I imagine Quayleth is looking forward to stretching her wings again.”
