741.05.23 | Bright Wings Over Benden - B'kit - 04.Jun.20
Nothing could temper B’kit’s enthusiasm today. Not the seemingly endless drills they’d been doing all week. Or the definitely endless safety checks. Not J’shom fussing like a broody wherry. None of it.
Because today was something the class had been working toward for months and finally they had the official permission for the trip. He couldn’t keep a grin off his face as he went through the last check of Erebuth’s harness and waited for the Weyrlingmaster’s review. He could feel Erebuth’s own excitement and annoyance at the innumerable delays as the morning slipped away, and rested a hand on the blue’s hide.
As the others got their sign offs the three weyrlings scrambled into place, as though concerned the permission would be withdrawn if a bug so much as sneezed on one of the dragons, but his attention was all on Erebuth. Are you ready, Re? The blue’s snort and exasperation across their bond brought another smile to his face. Confirming the coordinates with the Weyrlingmaster and holding them firmly in his mind, they finally took off and any lingering worries fell away. Finally all the drills would pay off!

-and there they were over the heights at Benden. We did it! Kitt thumped Erebuth on the neck and laughed aloud. Of course we did. It was easy. The blue was playing it cool but B’kit could feel his excitement and it was as infectious as his own.
It was the best day ever!
